'It saved my life': Corrie's Sally Dynevor admits cancer storyline helped her own diagnosis and reveals excitement at Helen Flanagan's return

She's known the nation over for her role as Coronation Street's shrill gossip.

But Sally Webster's own dramatic life actually helped to save actress Sally Dynevor's own when a storyline prompted her to check-up on her own health.

Speaking of her fight against breast cancer on Wednesday's Lorraine, the actress, 53, revealed her own diagnosis came off the back of her character's battle with the disease.

Speaking candidly to Lorraine Kelly about her own diagnosis in 2009, Sally sensationally revealed: 'The Street saved my life.'

Speaking about the storyline that the Websters went through on the cobbled, and the affect it had on her, she said:

'I would never have checked, I hadn’t even thought about breast cancer at 46. I thought I was far too young to get it.' 

Speaking of her fight against breast cancer on Wednesday's Lorraine, the actress, 53, revealed her own diagnosis came off the back of her character's battle with the disease

And while she admitted that it was a difficult and dark time in her life, she went on to say: 'What is good is the things that have come out of it, like working with charities.' 

And she went on to say that she was inspired to go public with her battle, so that others going through the same ordeal could relate to someone.

'When I was diagnosed I wanted to find someone I knew that had it maybe in the public eye to guide me,' she said.

Turning her thoughts back to Sally Webster and the cobbles of Weatherfield, where she has been a mainstay for 30 years, the actress admitted she was very excited about a new storyline. 

Talking about Helen Flanagan's up-coming return to the soap after four years, she said she was excited to have both her on-screen daughters back with her.

While Helen, who plays Rosie Webster, quit the show in 2012, her on-screen sister Brooke Vincent (Sophie)  has also been on a break from filming this year.

But the duo are set to return with wannabe superstar Rosie returning to the cobbles with Sophie after reuniting in Miami. 

'I’m so excited about her coming back, I've missed them both so much,' Sally admitted.

She added: 'I can’t wait to see Helen as I've not seen her for a while!'
