First look at Billions season two unveiled as Damian Lewis and Paul Giamatti prepare to square off once again

'At the end of last season there was just a lot of wreckage — Bobby and Chuck have ruined each others lives.'

So say the ladies in the lives of Billions' bitter rivals Damian Lewis and Paul Giamatti. And they are about to get right back to it in season two.

Showtime unveiled the first look at the second season of the hit mega-money drama, with a hybrid trailer/behind the scenes look on Wednesday.

Round two: The first look at Billions season two was unveiled on Wednesday as Paul Giamatti and Damian Lewis prepared to square off once again

The show pitches Lewis's charismatic hedge fund manager Bobby 'Axe' Axelrod against Giamatti's District Attorney Chuck Rhoades Jr, as the latter attempts to prove the former is shady and take him down.

'In season two the major reversal is that Bobby has made a decision that if he is going to be able to operate freely, the US attorney has to be taken down,' Lewis reveals in the sneak peek.

'In terms of the power dynamics of it, my character is just trying to play a smarter game,' Giamatti added. 'There's a constant game of one-upsmanship this season.'

The men have a connection beyond their rivalry: Chuck's wife Wendy - played by Maggie Siff - is a psychiatrist and invaluable performance coach at Bobby's firm, Axe Capital.

'Wendy was caught in the middle; ultimately she feels very betrayed by both of them, and she walks out the door,' Siff explains in the clip.

At the very top of the trailer, her character can be heard telling Axelrod: 'I can't be in denial about what you are any longer.'

In another scene, her husband growls at her: 'These patients that you see are criminals. What do you think that makes you?'

Axelrod's street-smart wife Lara - played by Malin Akerman - has to date been fiercely loyal to him.

While Giamatti modestly concluded: 'Billions is the best show on television, and if you are not watching you are definitely missing out.'

Season two of Billions will premiere on February 19, 2017.
