Shakira thanks fans for well wishes during son's illness and says toddler is 'back to his cheerful self'

Shakira has taken to Instagram to thank her fans for their support and well wishes during her younger son's recent illness.

The Colombian singer had announced November 7 she was cancelling appearances at the Latin Grammys and the American Music Awards for 'personal reasons.'

It turned out that her 22-month-old son Sasha was sick and though he had been released from a hospital in Barcelona, Spain, on November 1, Marca.com reported, the doting mom didn't want to leave his side.

Doing better: Shakira has taken to Instagram to thank her fans for their support and well wishes during her younger son's recent illness. She's pictured with Sasha, 22 months

Shakira, who also has a three-and-a-half-year-old son Milan with her partner, Barcelona FC soccer star Gerald Pique, shared a photo of herself with Sasha on Tuesday.

'Thanks for all the messages you sent for Sasha while he was sick. Everything is under control now, and he's back to his cheerful self!' she wrote alongside the snap on her Instagram.

She followed it a couple of hours later with a photo of Sasha playing with his brother Milan.

Siblings: Shakira also posted a photo of Sasha with his older brother Milan, three-and-a-half, noting the tot was back to his 'cheerful self'. Their father is Spanish soccer star Gerard Pique

Staying home: The Colombian singer, 39, announced last week she was bowing out of the Latin Grammys in Las Vegas  and American Music Awards in LA for 'personal reasons'

Shakira, 39, will still be rooting for fellow Colombian singer Carlos Vives who will be at the Latin Grammys on November 17 in Las Vegas. She and Carlos are nominated for their song La Bicicleta.

The 44th Annual American Music Awards will take place three days later in Los Angeles at the Microsoft Theater.

Devoted parents: Shakira and Spanish soccer star Gerard Piqué met in 2010 when the Barcelona FC player appeared in the music video for her song Waka Waka (This Time for Africa), the official song of the 2010 FIFA World Cup. They're pictured in March 2014
