From plastic surgery controversy, Twitter wars, diva antics and latest bizarre speech about her 'award-winning vagina': How 2016 hasn't been so great for 'Woman of the Year' Iggy Azalea

She's just been named GQ's 'Woman of the Year', but 2016 seems to have been anything but great for Iggy Azalea.

In the last twelve months she's been trolled for her plastic surgery choices, been accused of cultural appropriation and suffered a backlash over her comments about Australia - not to mention being accused of diva antics on The Voice.

Now after giving a rather bizarre acceptance about her 'award-winning vagina', Daily Mail Australia takes a look back at the last 11 months to see how Iggy has got to this controversial point.

What went wrong? Iggy Azalea may have won 'Woman of the Year' at the GQ Awards, but 2016 hasn't been great for her so far

The drama seemed to start when fellow white rapper, Macklemore, released White Privilege II back in January and name-checked Iggy for culturally appropriating black culture.

'You’ve exploited and stolen the music, the moment, the magic, the passion, the fashion, you toy with, the culture was never yours to make better,' he raps.

'You’re Miley, you’re Elvis, you’re Iggy Azalea. Fake and so plastic, you’ve heisted the magic. You've taken the drums and the accent you rapped in. You're branded "hip-hop," it's so fascist and backwards.'

Hitting out: Macklemore slammed Iggy for culturally appropriating black culture in January

Hurt: Iggy was offended by what she saw as a two-faced move by the US rapper

Iggy responded to the diss on Twitter, telling a fan: 'He shouldn't have spent the last 3 yrs having friendly convos and taking pictures together at events etc if those were his feelings.'

The Australian rapper is used to the criticism about her music, as well as the American accent uses to rap in, and a few months after Macklemore's dig, her feud with Azealia Banks was reignited.

Before her tweeting privileges were suspended, back in March, Banks unleashed a string of explicit words aimed at the Australian star for her comments about their mutual contempt in a new interview with Elle Canada.

'We don’t like each other on a personal level, and that has gone on for many years—before the Black Lives Matter incident happened,' Iggy told the publication.

In retaliation: Azealia Banks reignites her feud with Iggy on Twitter

'So when I dismissed her, people started to think that I dismissed the whole movement, but I wasn’t trying to dismiss Black Lives Matter—I was trying to dismiss her because it’s our personal s***.

Drama: Alexis Jones, an equal rights campaigner, said she was out driving with her mother, 68, in Hollywood when she was sexually harassed by Nick Young

She added: 'I don’t think the subject matter of her tweet was invalid; I just think it was emotionally charged and driven by something else, and the whole thing got so misconstrued.

'Even though I still hate Azealia Banks, I wish I had said it in a way that didn’t make people think I was oblivious to the movement.'

In retaliation, Azealia tweeted: ?Matter of fact. . Let me just kill this b***h. No one is talking about u so u choose to mention me.... Wrong move [sic].

?Mentioning me is the only thing that will get you attention. Because ur music and nose job are trash,’ she added. ?I'm about to take my pettiness to a whole new level. Like, I'm about to do something SO f***ing petty. You're gonna be gagging all year.’

A few weeks later, the first signs of trouble in Iggy's relationship with Nick Young surfaced after he and a few of his LA Lakers teammates were accused of sexual harrassment.

Alexis Jones, an equal rights campaigner alleged that two men, later identified as Nick and his fellow LA Lakers player Jordan Clarkson, made 'lewd, sexual' gestures to her and her 68-year-old mother.

Unphased: Iggy didn't seem too fussed about D'Angelo Russell's video of her fiance talking about a teenage girl

On March 31, it was then reported that Iggy and Nick were on the verge of breaking up after a video of Nick bragging about chatting up a 19-year-old was leaked online by his teammate D'Angelo Russell.

Iggy's reaction was not initially one of anger as she said she 'liked' D'Angelo's film.

As reports of an impending break-up continued, Iggy said during an interview that Nick would end up with 'half a penis' if anymore videos of him ended up online.

In April, she was also rocked by TMZ's claims that she owed the Inland Revenue Service almost $400,000 (USD) in taxes from 2014.

On the rocks: Rumours of Nick and Iggy splitting begin in March

'Yes, i pay my taxes monthly. no, im not in any dispute with the government and dont owe that amount [sic],' she wrote in a lengthy Twitter rant.

'Its funny to me because made the deal like 2 months ago but they are trying to make it into something now because...they were hoping some more nick mess would happen and now that it hasnt and its getting boring they need 2 create something else,' she wrote.

'Its like writing "iggy pays a mortgage on her house every month!" and trying to make it a story. its not a story. lol.'

Money woes: Iggy is forced to defend her tax history in April

Later that month, she ended up getting into a battle on Twitter after suggesting the 'Becky with the good hair' line from Beyonce's Sorry was racially insensitive.

'Don't ever call me a Becky,' she tweeted to a fan. 'And by the way, this is not bey shade. i love her and the album. but my name is iggy, and you will all call me that.'

When another Twitter user pointed out that she used the term herself in her 2012 song I Think She Ready, she defended herself.

Defending herself: After criticising the term 'Becky' for white women, Iggy fires back when one fan pointed out that she had used the phrase in one of her own songs

'It was used as a play on brain and brian. you would not be down if i started calling all black men "deshawns",' the rapper wrote.

The comment only seemed to exacerbate the problem.

She then tweeted to another user: 'girl BYE. do you know how many time ppl have called me BECKY? it didnt have any kind of positive intention behind it. dont start.

'It's clearly not okay for me to call any other race a generalized name': Iggy said that 'Becky' is a negative stereotype of white women

Not a term that Iggy is a fan of: 'Becky' is a phrase that has been known to refer to a generic white woman with straight hair, and is also slang for oral sex

'Generalizing ANY race by calling them one sterotypical [sic] name for said race. i personally dont think is very cool, the end.'

But when she angered some Twitter users further by her comment about 'calling all black men "deshawns"' Iggy stated that being called 'a Becky' is just as bad.

'Its clearly not okay for me to call any other race a generalized name (i agree) so why is it okay for others to do the same to me? it has to apply to all. if anyone misses the point - their loss,' she wrote.

Iggy was slapped with a lawsuit by Atlanta producer Jon Jon Traxx in May, nearly three years after his contract with the rapper was terminated in 2013, according to TMZ.

Traxx claims he helped Iggy signed a deal to record with him in 2009 and helped nurture her career for two years. He claimed he was still owed compensation to the tune of $1.5 million

X Factor: Iggy announces in June she will join the Australian version of the show

Some positivity came into Iggy's life a couple of months later in June as she added reality show judge to her CV by signing up to take over from Dannii Minogue on The Voice Australia.

However, a few days later she confirmed that after months of speculation her engagement to Nick Young was over.

The 26-year-old rapper took to her Instagram page to announce her break-up with the 31-year-old Los Angeles Lakers small forward.

The split seemed to initially be amicable, but it turned out it was down to Nick getting his ex girlfriend pregnant and being caught on camera bringing women back to their home.

Where's the album? Following a string of flops, Iggy was forced to delay her sophomore album, Digital Distortion

The bad luck in her personal life extended to her professional one after her official comeback single, 'Team,' bombed in the US, the UK, and even in Australia.

The poor performance resulted in her sophomore album, Digital Distortion, being pushed back to an as-yet-unnamed date to give the one-time-hitmaker the chance to work with EDM DJ Zedd on a more commercially-viable single.

While Iggy's fans and friends like Amber Rose publicly supported Iggy, trolls were firing shots at the rapper over her face.

Trolls: Iggy is accused of having Botox after posting this picture with Adam Lambert

Azalea - has been open about her plastic surgery procedures on her nose and breasts - was subjected to the cruel taunts after posing in a selfie alongside Adam Lambert on the set of The X Factor Australia

'Holy Botox OD for both,' wrote one user, implying she and Adam had had work done.

Scrutiny: The rapper's cosmetic surgery choices have often been harshly discussed online - whether she's had work done or not

The same month she was also accused of having butt implants while also being slammed for not speaking up for Black Lives Matter after the police-killings of African-American men, Alton Sterling and Philando Castile.

A few days later she tweeted her condolences.

In August, once again Iggy was hit by reports she owed another $270,000 (USD) in unpaid taxes just three months after the rapper - whose net worth is $10 million - hit the headlines when she was slapped with a $391,056.55 lien for unpaid taxes from 2014.

But despite the money drama, Iggy managed to find happiness with new love French Montana, after the two were spotted getting cosy on holiday in Los Cabos, Mexico.

'Happy birthday': Iggy Azalea starts dating French Montana a few months after splitting from Nick

In September Before the first episode of The X Factor Australia had even aired, Iggy managed to offend the entire country by saying she no longer considers it home.

'I mean, to be honest with you, my home is in America,' she said in an interview with  The Herald Sun. 'It's great to come back [to Australia] and visit my grandparents, but there is no home connection.'

In October, with The X Factor Australia in full swing, Iggy was accused of having 'diva-like' behaviour by her fellow judges Adam Lambert and Guy Sebastian.

Friend or feud? Meanwhile, Iggy slammed rumours of a feud between herself and Underdog judge Mel B during a live show last week

'She isn't the easiest person to work with,' the former Australian Idol winner told NW before revealing that the rapper always keeps production waiting by arriving 'hours' late to set.

The following month, Adam called her 'a diva' for taking so long to get to set, suggesting it was because she spent too long in hair and makeup.

As the show continues more and more accusations are made against Iggy by the two male judges, who suggest she's not looking after her contestants properly with constant trips back and forth to the US.

On a recent trip to LA for her boyfriend French's birthday she was not just criticised for leaving her acts, but for posing with an elephant hired for the bash.

Add effortless cool to your look like Iggy with Yeezy's

Iggy Azalea showcased her stunning curves in this blushy pink co-ord as she posed for a snap on her birthday.

She looked incredible of course but lets discuss the elephant in the room shall we? Not that majestic animal next to her, but those gorgeous Yeezy ankle boots!

These slender fitting, sock boots were a big hit on the celebrity scene last year which has spawned a lot of high-street copy cats (to our good fortune).

It's no wonder these elegant knitted beauties were such a hit on the celebrity circuit-- we spotted everyone from Hailey Baldwin to Kendall Jenner and Kim Kardashian sporting a pair so if you're looking to join the lineup, you're in luck!

Even Little Mix's Leigh-Anne Pinnock didn't have good things to say about Iggy, saying that she got a 'bad vibe' from the X Factor judge.

Now, with no more of her contestants left in the competition, Adam and Guy may well have been right.

In spite of a very turbulent 2016, Iggy was still honoured by GQ as Woman of the Year on Wednesday night.

Though it seems she had a different idea about what the award was for than most people.

'I have won a lot of awards over the last few years but this one means the absolute most to me because I can finally say I have an award winning vagina,' she said in her acceptance speech. Barmy.

'I've got the best vagina in the world,' boasted the tight-lipped star to The Daily Telegraph

The same night she once again distanced herself from her home country by saying she 'doesn't miss it' at all after moving away ten years ago.

'I don't know why people get so offended as (Australia) is not my home,' she told the Daily Telegraph.

With around seven weeks left of 2016 to go, Iggy may well turn this turbulent year around.

Though, like most people around the world, we're guessing she's just ready for fresh start in 2017.
