But Uma Thurman appears to have ditched her trademark bombshell look in favour of something darker and more mysterious instead.

The actress, 46, showed off a new brunette hairdo on Friday as she enjoyed a break from filming in Barcelona, Spain to indulge in a spot of shopping and a cigarette.

The actress looked almost unrecognisable as she headed out for a day off in the Spanish city, displaying her new dark 'do for the first time.

Sweeping her newly-dyed tresses into a loose and messy top, and leaving her face completely bare, the Kill Bill star looked worlds away from her usual glamorous self on the red carpet - but just as gorgeous.

Stepping out without a scrap of cosmetic help, the famous blonde showed off her naturally stunning facial features and enviably glowing complexion.

Dressing in a chunky brown suede cape layered atop of a black T-shirt and jeans, Uma kept casual but completely chic as she ventured to the city's top shoe shops for a bit of retail therapy.

Never without her trademark glamour however, the Dangerous Liaisons lead accessorised with a sleek oxblood leather handbag and a pair of dark shades, which she kept perched on her forehead.

The mother-of-three mooched around the shops before enjoying a relaxing cigarette as she soaked up the culture of the historic city's streets.

The actress is settling in the Spanish city for the next few months in order to film her latest film, Down A Dark Hall.

And it seems it is this new project which is responsible for her new hair - with the actress debuting the style on her Instagram.

The new flick follows Kit Gordy (played by AnnaSophia Robb), a new student at the exclusive Blackwood Boarding School, who confronts the institution's supernatural occurrences and dark powers of its headmistress (Thurman).

The actress' busy schedule also comes after Kill Bill director Quentin Tarantino teased The Bride's possible return to cinemas - in an interview earlier this year.

Speaking to Variety, he said that he had spoken to Uma, who plays the protagonist 'Black Mambo', about reprising the role.

He said: 'I wouldn't be surprised if The Bride made one more appearance before the whole thing is said and done.'

He added: 'I've been talking to Uma about it just a little bit. Some of the stuff that I've written and never made it into the movie that maybe I could use and thinking, 'OK, now, thirteen years later, what would be going on with Sofie Fatale, what would be going on with Elle Driver?'

According to TMZ's sources, the latest development blindsided Uma, it came just two days before she was due to make her transatlantic joruney from the US.

Last month, it was claimed that Uma is set to fight her ex on visitation time with Luna, which he wants more of.
