Speaking to delegates at a sports medicine conference in Madrid, Spain coach Vicente Del Bosque explained that he’s keeping a careful eye on plenty of options, ahead of making the eternally tough decisions when he chooses his final squad, ahead of the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.

Real Madrid forward Jesé, who has been in sparkling form recently, gaining more of a prominent role in Carlo Ancelotti’s plans, is certainly a player that Del Bosque is keeping close tabs on.

“All who are playing regularly and are performing well, are potential players for the national team. I wouldn’t like to highlight one name in particular, I’m speaking in general terms that all those with the potential and who can come. In the case of Jesé, he’s one of those.”

Jesé has featured in a total of 23 matches for Real Madrid so far this season, although many of those have been from the substitutes bench, with 8 starts. Of those games, Jesé has made 13 appearances in La Liga, 7 in the Copa del Rey and 3 in the Champions League, whilst also contributing 6 goals.

The 20-year-old has also made his mark at the junior international levels for Spain, with 2 goals in 4 appearances for the U21 side in their European Championship qualifiers, plus 5 goals in 5 games at the U20 World Cup last summer, along with 6 goals in 6 games whilst previously with the U19 side.

Whether the 2014 World Cup in Brazil next summer will come too soon for Jesé, it’s difficult to say, but he’s certainly been staking a good claim for himself. If not this summer, then if his promising trajectory continues, he’ll certainly be an option for La Roja, for many years to come.
