Many users then shared their own tales of being interrupted by clueless youngsters.

In a post called 'Daddy was doing press-ups on mummy,' Mumsnet user docomein said: 'Our son who is seven walked in on us in the middle of the night and caught us at it.

'My husband saw him straight away but my son must have seen a couple of seconds worth.'

The red-faced mum added: 'This morning he saw our neighbour and told her all about it, including a rendition of the funny noises mummy was making which apparently were so loud they woke him up.'

'Fortunately we were well covered by the duvet. I can laugh about it now...'

Mumsnet user missyB1 added: 'Our seven-year-old heard us having sex the other night, he was in his room but his door was open. He shouted to us "Are you two bouncing on the bed? Can I play?" EEEK!'

'"Oh," said my daughter dismissively, "I thought you were having sex" and walked out.'

Other users reassured the original poster that she did not need to be concerned by the unfortunate walk-in.
