Hair-raising! Bella Thorne reveals bizarre green and red ombre dye job as she leads Z LaLa and Bebe Rexha in the worst-dressed at the American Music Awards

  •  Z LaLa followed up on last year's octopus dress by channeling Malificent in a majestic PVC and net creation
  •  Keke Palmer was a near-miss as she wrapped up from the sudden Los Angeles rain in a pink fur jacket
  • Bebe Rexha, 27, took a walk on the wild side as she stepped out looking like Kylie Jenner

Doing little to dispel the idea that there ARE a lot of bad ombrés in America, Bella Thorne appeared to have given her Halloween outfit a second outing at the AMAs.

The 19-year-old social media queen stuck out her tongue as she brought her rock-face to the red carpet at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles at the American Music Awards on Sunday night.

As it's one of the edgier nights for fashion, so she chose to shun a classic dress in favour of showing off her figure in a leatherette bra top and cigarette trousers in an evening full of fashion faux pas from a whole host of attendees.

Worst dressed: Bella Thorne, 19, led singer Z Lala, 24, and pop princess Bebe Rexha, 27, in a night full of fashion faux pas as they attended the American Music Awards at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles on Sunday

It might be one of the biggest nights in the music calendar but there were some off-beats in the fashion stakes, and Bella was not alone.

Z LaLa channeled Malificent in a majestic PVC and net creation.

It was topped off by an elaborate gravity defying hair style which swept over her head like a half pipe.

Pop that away: The 19-year-old social media queen stuck out her tongue as she brought her rock-face to the red carpet at the American Music Awards

Last year memorably saw the singer in an Octopus dress, and she clearly had to work hard to top her choice.

Keke Palmer was a near-miss as she wrapped up from the sudden Los Angeles rain in a pink fur jacket which was more Barbie than Balmain.

The 23-year-old put her impressive abs at centre-stage.

In a classic case of taste coming second to flamboyance, the Scream Queens beauty left little to the imagination in a see-through metallic number.

She covered her stunning features with pink tinted-lens sunglasses - despite it being one of the rare days when it rains in Los Angeles.

Heidi Klum, 43, chose one of her least flattering outfits to date.

Presumably in anticipation of the forthcoming Star Wars: Rogue One, she twinned with C3PO, donning a bizarre metallic flared jumpsuit.

An attention-grabbing number: Chrissy Teigen showed off a serious amount of leg (and a little bit more) in a black gown which features a symmetrical waist-high slash, that left nearly very little to the imagination

A little to risque? The loin-cloth-influenced gown left the 30-year-old model slightly exposed from a series of angles as the lightweight material wafted around as she posed and preened

By your side: Her husband, John Legend, helped to shift the limelight from her as he posed beside her in a garish blazer

We do love a red carpet risk.

Chrissy Teigen attended the American Music Awards with husband John Legend last night and she totally stole the limelight. Forget thigh high splits - Chrissy's daring dress featured two splits right up to the waist! With a few strategically placed pins holding the whole thing in place of course...

It's by Yousef Akbar, and when styled by Monica Rose with barbed wire heels by Dsquared2, she looked flawless. We love how the long sleeves and high neck balance things out a bit, and the chunky gold jewellery completes this seriously fierce look.

Unfortunately Chrissy's Resort 2017 collection dress isn't available to buy online, but click (right) to read up on the Sydney-based designer.

Or if you're feeling brave, we've found some little black dresses that will do the trick in our edit below. This Rare London number is the perfect way to let your legs do all the talking on your next night out!

As if the garnish gold fabric wasn't enough, it also featured a pussy bow around her neck.

Where's your Tyga at? Bebe Rexha, 27, took a walk on the wild side as she stepped out looking more like Kylie Jenner than Kylie Jenner

I, Robot? Heidi Klum, 43, chose one of her least flattering outfits to date; presumably in anticipation of the forthcoming Star Wars: Rogue One, she twinned with C3PO, donning a bizarre metallic flared jumpsuit

She rounded off her leg-flashing, attention-grabbing look with a pair of towering stiletto heels, which were adorned with gold stars - to presumably highlight her belief in her own star power.

Bebe Rexha, 27, took a walk on the wild side as she stepped out looking more like Kylie Jenner than Kylie Jenner.

The singer chose a garnish plunging gown which showcased her cleavage, but did little to flatter her.

She teamed it with a set of beads which awkwardly draped between her decolletage.

Still looks stunning: Zoe Saldana was, perhaps, feeling patriotic in this ensemble which looked like a sequin US flag over her slacks

Confused: Karlie Kloss didn't meet her fashion credentials in this bizarre half skater-dress, half frumpy maxi, with black ankle socks and severe hair

Her bronze eye-make up matched the colour of her dress too heavily, as she appeared to have aspired to Kylie's platinum locks and almond eyes, which seemed severe on the natural beauty.

While Zoe Saldana looked as stunning as ever, her ensemble was somewhat peculiar.

The 38-year-old Guardians of the Galaxy star was, perhaps, feeling patriotic in this ensemble which looked like a sequin US flag over her slacks.

Night out: Noah Cyrus, 16, appeared to be a more demure dresser than her older sister but was swamped in a maxi

The 24-year-old model, and pal of host Gigi Hadid, cut a confused silhouette in the asymmetric style that was more of a frock horror than success.

Noah Cyrus, 16, appeared to be a more demure dresser than her older sister.

The teen looked a little dour as she was swamped by a long black maxi-dress, which featured a bright print.

Gigi Gorgeous, however, appeared to be more set for a party at the Playboy Mansion, than a stellar night of music - including sets from Sting and John Legend.

The 24-year-old model flashed the flesh in a white balconette bra and a sequin half-dress with matching wrist-warmers.

The 36-year-old actress chose a plunging floral babydoll dress, which flaunted both her thighs and chest.

The multi-coloured chiffon dress would, perhaps, have looked better as a maxi, as it failed to impress despite her fabulous figure.

Renee Bargh and Lauren Giraldo also put in the effort but missed the note in their garish choices.

Laura Marano couldn't make up her mind, as she chose an asymmetric LBD with fringing that might have been a great Coachella choice.

Bright kid: Donnie Wahlberg, 47, wore a vibrant pink velvet jacket as he arrived on the arm of wife Jennie McCarthy

In the pink: The former boyband star made a bold choice with a pink velvet blazer, which he teame with black trousers and a shirt

It wasn't just the ladies who were making daring choices for the red-carpet.

Donnie Wahlberg, 47, wore a vibrant pink velvet jacket as he arrived on the arm of wife Jennie McCarthy.

While internet star Gabriel Conte checked out in a black and white plaid suit, and Aidan Alexander appeared to be wearing printed tracksuit bottoms.

Bold choices at the American Music Awards are not unusual - Harry Styles wore a distinctive floral suit last year.

And who could forget the time Justin Timberlake and then-girlfriend Britney Spears wore matching Canadian tuxedos, donning head to toe denim at the awards in 2001.

Not a favourite: Gabriel Conte (L) checked out in a black and white plaid suit while Aidan Alexander (R) appeared to be wearing printed tracksuit bottoms

The brightest stars of the music industry turned out in force on Sunday night for the American Music Awards.

The event took place at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles, with model Gigi Hadid and former SNL funny man Jay Pharaoh acting as hosts.

Drake has the most nominations of any artist, with an impressive 12 nods to his name including Artist Of The Year, while a nomination for Rihanna's Work, which he features on, brings the number up to 13.

It's a record-breaking amount, with Michael Jackson previously holding the most American Music Award nominations in a single year when he received 11 for Thriller.

Drake, 30, will be vying for the evening's top honour alongside on/off girlfriend Rihanna, as well as Adele, Beyonce, Justin Bieber, Selena Gomez, Ariana Grande, Twenty One Pilots, Carrie Underwood and The Weeknd.

Sibling rivalry: Bella Thorne looked a little uncomfortable that her sister Dani had copied her hair and her moves

Twinsies? The two sisters were almost indistinguishable save for their contrasting outfits

Rihanna has received seven nominations, while Adele and Justin Bieber gained five apiece.

Nominees for the title of New Artist Of The Year are Alessia Cara, The Chainsmokers, DNCE, Shawn Mendes and Zayn.

There is no overall song of the year category this year; instead honours will be handed out for best song in the categories of pop/rock, country, rap/hip-hop and soul/R&B.

While Selena Gomez has been taking some time off from music and is being treated for depression, the show's producer Larry Klein told E! News that she may be making a brief return to the spotlight with an appearance at the ceremony.

And Justin Bieber is apparently ensuring there won't be any awkward run-ins with his ex by performing via satellite, according to show organisers.

Mish-mash: Renee Bargh (L) and Lauren Giraldo (C) put in the effort but missed the note in their garish choices, while Laura Marano (R) couldn't make up her mind as she chose an asymmetric LBD with fringing

The pop star is unable to attend the awards show because he is performing on Sunday night in Zurich, Switzerland as part of his Purpose World Tour.

Viewers will be treated to a host of performances during the evening, with Lady Gaga, John Legend, Bruno Mars, Ariana Grande & Nicki Minaj among the performers.

The American Music Awards are now in their 44th year and will air on ABC at 8pm ET.

Fans were able to vote online or via Twitter, with voting for most categories closing on November 14.

Voting for the New Artist Award remains open until the end of the first hour of the awards ceremony.

In 2015, One Direction won Artist Of The Year, Taylor Swift's Blank Space was named Song Of The Year and Sam Hunt was awarded the Best New Artist prize.
