John Poppleton, from California, creates mindblowing works of art painted directly onto human skin using fluorescent shades. His project, called Under Black Light, consists of 'bodyscapes' of spectacular natural phenomena such as African sunsets, tropical oceans during rainstorm, and mountain ranges under moonlight. In more otherworldly, eerie designs the artist depicts cosmic scenes of stars, galaxies and shimmering auroras. ...read

The Life & Songs Of Emmylou Harris (Rounder)
Emmylou Harris is joined by guests on a sprawling live album that celebrates a career that took wing after she toured with her mentor, country icon Gram Parsons, in 1973. Sheryl Crow sings Two More Bottles Of Wine and Mavis Staples adds richness to the traditional hymn Will The Circle Be Unbroken?, while Alison Krauss and Kris Kristofferson also appear. But pride of place goes to Harris, 69, whose tender, plaintive soprano sparkles.

Eternally Even (Capitol)
Jacket, but his second solo album is surprisingly soulful. Its smouldering, electronic melodies were originally intended as film music and the feel is suitably cinematic. There are nods to Curtis Mayfield and Marvin Gaye, plus echoes of Tame Impalas mix of psychedelia, funk and jazz. Here In Spirit addresses hate crime in America, while We Aint Getting Any Younger is an epic, two-part centrepiece

Unplugged (UMC)
Vocalists Ali Campbell and Astro plus keyboardist Mickey Virtue make up one of the two manifestations of UB40 currently touring, and they bring an agile poise to this acoustic album of classic covers and band originals. The groups 1980 debut Signing Off was made on a simple tape machine and there is a similar sense of ease here. Purple Rain pays a reggae tribute to Prince. I Got You Babe sees Alis daughter Kaya singing the Chrissie Hynde lines.

Cello Sonatas (Erato 9029595113)
The younger of the Capucon brothers, Gautier, tackles one of the great cello assignments with flair and French polish. As usual, he is partnered by pianist Frank Braley as they probe Beethovens development as a writer for the cello only in the final sonata did he risk a genuine slow movement. This lack of confidence in the cello as a legato instrument can inhibit enjoyment if the performers are unsure of themselves, but Braley and Capucon are well versed. They breeze through the two early sonatas with much rhythmic enjoyment, make a good job of A major Sonata and get stuck into the craggy Op. 102 pair. As fillers we are given all three of the sets of variations, two on themes from Mozarts opera The Magic Flute and the third on Handels See, The Conquering Hero Comes.

57th & 9th (Polydor)
Sting returns to conventional pop on an album named after a crossroads near his Manhattan studio. I Cant Stop Thinking About You revisits the jangling guitar thrust of The Police, while Heading South On The Great North Road tells of how the singer left his native Wallsend to seek his fortune. The mood is urgent and concise, and Sting is still a master of the artful melodic twist.

Here (RCA)
Having sung Empire State Of Mind with Jay-Z, Alicia Keys returns to her New York hometown for inspiration. A series of inner-city vignettes, her sixth album intersperses soulful songs with rambling interludes, as Keys trades classical piano for tougher styles as she skips between R&B;, doo-wop and blues. This lacks the snap of 2012s Girl On Fire, but Keys in full voice remains spectacular.
