'I'm absolutely terrified!' Martin Roberts confronts his biggest fear as he fends off 52 SNAKES in nightmarish Bushtucker Trial on I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here!

Following a slew of negative remarks about him on Twitter during Saturday night's episode of I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here! it was perhaps unsurprising that Martin Roberts was voted to face Sunday's Bush Tucker Trial.

Martin and Danny Baker had the most viewers votes to face the Trial - with Martin losing and being the one to go into the so-called Hell Hollow.

As hosts of the show Ant and Dec left the campmates having delivered the news, Martin was seen panicking over the fact that Hell Hollow sounded like it could be an underground task - something he is evidently the most scared of.

Lisa Snowdon could see Martin was worried, and tried to reassure him.

'Look no point in worrying about it,' she said.

'I am absolutely petrified, my biggest nemesis is confined space, the idea of being anywhere confined is my biggest fear,' the 53-year-old rambled frantically.

'The best advice ever is that eventually it ends, 10 minutes of your life and that’s it,' advised Scarlett Moffatt.

Lisa and Ola - who have both taken part in Trials, including jumping out of a helicopter and walking a plank atop a skyscraper - tried to give Martin a pep talk and make him feel positive about it, after which Joel Dommett and Scarlett walked him to the bridge.

'I think if he gets five stars he’ll be a different person, he’ll be so positive and get proper involved and that’ll lift everyone’s spirits,' said Scarlett as she waved him off.

'I now know how important the evening meal is, it’s more than just food, it’s the comradery, so it’s all on my shoulders to bring back the food for tonight,' said Martin.

He appeared in the trial clearing to be greeted by hosts Ant and Dec, who explained that it was a two part trial.

He was faced with a gnarled old tree stump with 12 stars under it, each one representing a meal for camp.

Ssscary: Martin Roberts' plight didn't get any better as he was given a rather slithery task to complete in Sunday night's Bushtucker trial

In the first part of the trial, Martin had six minutes to work his way down four hollows collecting six stars. In the second part, he had a further six minutes to collect six stars in the fifth and final hollow.

He crawled into the trunk and into the first chamber. There were holes that he had to put his hands into and unscrew stars. Each star was guarded by a jungle critter.

He got the first one, narrowly avoiding a snake and screaming as he realised that he was being accompanied in his trial by slithery reptiles. Soldiering on, he retrieved a second.

He thought he had put them in his bag, but dropped them in the darkness and moved onto the next chamber, which contained a lizard.

Slithering through it: He crawled into the trunk and into the first chamber. There were holes that he had to put his hands into and unscrew stars. Each star was guarded by a jungle critter

Watching on: 'The stars will be coming in with the snakes', Ant explained, encouraging him to collect as many as possible

The following chamber contained six pythons. He moved past them and found another star, after which he entered the next chamber containing a single giant python. He carefully moved around it and found one of the two available stars there.

He lay in the final hollow and it started to fill up with water.

'There’s many a London flat that’s smaller than this,' the property expert quipped. 'Don’t like the view. And it’s got a bit of damp.'

As the hollow filled with water, Martin was joined by more snakes as he felt around for stars.

Not edible: 'Hello there, nice to meet you...I'm not edible,' he converses with the poor creatures as they slide over his face attempting to escape the box

Testing times: The Homes Under The Hammer presenter, 53, lay in a dark coffin wearing goggles for the Bushtucker trial - and he is not impressed

'Hello there, nice to meet you... I'm not edible,' he said to the creatures as they slid over his face, before he burst into song.

But his effort to placate the slithery beings failed as they crowded around him in a more animated fashion.

'Ah they don't like the song! They're trying to silence me!' he screeched.

When the time ran out, he was lifted out of the tank and informed that the trial had featured 52 snakes in total, the most ever to be used in a Bushtucker Trial.

Worried: Martin had been dreading his first solo Bush Tucker Trial

Victory: On returning to camp, Martin eeked out revealing how many stars he had won to his eagerly waiting, hunger-stricken campmates

Ant and Dec counted his stars and he got eight out of the possible 12. 'I’m feeding my campmates. That’s all I did this for,' he said, elated.

On returning to camp, Martin eeked out revealing how many stars he had won to his eagerly waiting, hunger-stricken campmates.

He retold the story of the trial bit by bit, and when Scarlett interrupted and asked how many stars he finished with he replied: 'This is only half of the story.'

Eventually Martin revealed that he got 8 stars, much to the happiness of the others.
