Hug it out: Selena Gomez and Niall Horan's apparent romance appears to have fizzled out it seems the duo remain on fantastic terms, as they were seen embracing in a hug at Sunday night's American Music Awards

Selena's speech at the ceremony was the most widely-discussed of the night as it was her first public appearance in three months after she took a break from the music industry earlier this year to seek treatment for health issues.

As she took the stage, the brunette beauty revealed she felt 'broken inside' due to her issues that stem from her struggle with lupus, the chronic autoimmune disease.

After giving her speech earlier in the night, Selena was then spotted with Niall, who she was linked to in December last year when it was reported they shared a kiss at Jenna Dewan's birthday party.

Despite never confirming their 'romance', the duo certainly greeted each other with a warm embrace, as onlookers told E! that kindhearted Niall, who performed at the event, told his rumoured ex: 'You did so good!'

Breaking it down: Selena's speech at the ceremony was the most widely-discussed of the night as it was her first public appearance in three months after she took a break from the music industry earlier this year to seek treatment for health issues

Last year, a source told E! News that Selena and Niall were kissing on the lips, dancing together and hugging as they partied at LA hotspot Bootsy Bellows.

According to the source, the two singers were piling on the PDA throughout the night, as they celebrated Jenna's 35th birthday party, and an insider told Us Weekly that they left together.

The source added: 'Niall and Selena definitely seemed very close and like they were together. Niall got there first with his bodyguard, then the next thing I know, I looked over and Selena was there. They were very close together, talking and whispering.'

On Sunday night, Selena welled up with tears as she spoke about her battle with anxiety and depression.

Picking up her award, she gave a moving speech about the health issues which caused her to seek treatment and take a break from showbiz earlier this year.

Selena bravely addressed the crowd at the Microsoft Theater in LA saying: 'In 2014 this stage was actually the first time that I was authentically 100% honest with all of you,

'I think it's safe to say most of you know a lot of my life whether I liked it or not. I had to stop, I had everything and I was absolutely broken inside,' she continued as her voice shook with emotion.

Pretty in Prada! Rock the red carpet like Selena Gomez

Selena Gomez stole the show at the AMA's in a gorgeous Prada gown. The singer was dressed to perfection in this red satin gown and Cartier diamond earrings. The silhouette of this dress is simple and hugs Selena's curves in all the right places.

This all red ensemble channels classic Hollywood glamour, while minimal hair, makeup and jewelry soften the bold color. We love this gown for the red carpet, but we can also see it put into use for the upcoming holiday season!

This dress is custom for Selena, so you won't be finding it online. But you can shop other Prada collections (right). Or look below to find similar options. We've found some gorgeous slip-like options that will be as sexy as they are comfortable!

Selena said that her issues were the result of her struggle with lupus, the chronic autoimmune disease that also led her to check in to rehab back in 2014 at The Meadows in Arizona.

This time around she chose to receive treatment at a woman's only facility just outside Nashville, where she completed her program earlier this month.
