Tomatoes, mandarins... and mayonnaise! Fergie reveals the secret combination of foods behind her three-stone weight loss

  • The Duchess of York has lost three stone in three years and kept it off
  • She started comfort-eating when her parents separated as a child
  • Her strange combinations of food just 'works for her', she says
  • She also addressed Princess Beatrice's split from her long-term boyfriend

She has lost more than three stone in weight, managing to keep it off for almost three years.

Now the Duchess of York has revealed her secret – and it’s not just the ‘food emulsifier’ she has been seen flogging on television.

Fergie has revealed how she feasts on a strange combination of tomatoes, egg mayonnaise and mandarins. It is, she says, a diet that ‘works for her’.

Prince Andrew’s ex-wife said she started comfort-eating after her parents separated when she was a child, an addiction that stayed into her adult life.

‘I became obsessed with food,’ she told a magazine. ‘Luckily it was food and not any other addiction. That was very lucky. One therapist told me ‘‘The size of your bottom has saved your life’’. And it’s very true. Thanks heavens for that.’

Sarah, who was once a spokesman for Weight Watchers, has also undergone a strict fitness regime in the Swiss Alps where she spends much of her spare time, enduring daily runs and mountain hikes.

The Duchess also addressed the issue of her elder daughter, Princess Beatrice’s, recent split from long-term boyfriend Dave Clark.

Describing Mr Clark, 32, as a ‘good boy’, she told The Australian Women’s Weekly: ‘It’s ten years since she was 18 and they first got together, so now she’s living. It’s kind of fun. She called and said ‘‘Now what do I do mum?’’. She’s never been dating. But I’m happy for her that she’s starting a new journey.’

She was adamant, however, that reports her younger daughter, Princess Eugenie, is about to get engaged are wide of the mark.

Of her ex-husband, with whom she still lives at Royal Lodge in Windsor when she is in the UK, she said: ‘It’s an amazing relationship. Nobody understands it and we’re not going to change it for anybody.’

Sarah also commented on the 2010 newspaper sting – during which it was alleged that she offered to introduce an undercover reporter to the Queen’s son for £500,000 – that she claims destroyed her reputation.

She is suing Rupert Murdoch’s News UK for £25million after claiming she was tricked by the so-called Fake Sheikh Mazher Mahmood into making indiscreet remarks. The newspaper group is defending her claim robustly.

Sarah said: ‘Of course he’s gone to jail now [for perverting the course of justice in connection with a separate case] and I had to forgive him to move on.’

Fergie has previously claimed she decided to lose weight after the scales showed she was only 6lb lighter than when she was pregnant with Beatrice. She told Hello magazine she ‘ballooned’ to 13st 10lb.
