THE CAMBRIDGE COLLEGES’ CONSERVATION CONSORTIUM

The Cambridge Colleges’ Conservation Consortium (CCCC) is a not-for-profit cooperative working to conserve and preserve the archives, special collections and libraries of the eleven permanent member colleges within the University of Cambridge.

The CCCC was founded in 1987 with the aim of developing and sharing expertise in the conservation of rare books and manuscripts in Cambridge Colleges’ libraries. Today, these objectives are complimented and pursued through the application of specialist conservation treatments to the rich collections of archives, manuscripts, incunables, early printed books and parchment materials held by the member colleges.

The eleven permanent members of the consortium are: Christ’s College, Clare College, Corpus Christi College, Downing College, Emmanuel College, Gonville and Caius College, King’s College, Pembroke College, Queens’ College, Sidney Sussex College and St John’s College. In addition, there are a further four annual associate memberships which are allocated to Trinity Hall and then on a rotation among member and non-member colleges.

Through the continuing collaboration and support of the colleges within the Consortium, Bridget Warrington (Managing Conservator), Françoise Richard (Book and Manuscript Conservator), Veronica Zoppi (Book and Manuscript Conservator – maternity cover) and Claude Grewal-Sultze (Conservator) are able to carry out the essential work required to keep these valuable collections preserved and accessible.
