Stinger is an anti-virus product capable of removing a small group of common but serious viruses.
To use Stinger simply click the ‘Run Stinger’ button to the left or Press the key combination – Alt and S.
Stinger will be displayed – click ‘Scan now’ to detect the most common and current viruses. Detection and cleaning should be automatic. However if a virus is found you should make a note of the name and seek full cleaning instructions at http://www.mcafee.com/us/downloads/free-tools/stinger.aspx
If you have an out of date CD/DVD and the version of Stinger says that “This product is outdated”, you can get the latest version from http://www.mcafee.com/us/downloads/free-tools/stinger.aspx using another machine connected to the network and then transfer and run it from a formatted USB drive or CD/DVD.
If a virus is detected and you are unsure if your machine is clean you should contact the ITS Helpdesk for assistance.
