Leslie Mann, John Cena, Ike Barinholtz to Star in Comedy ‘The Pact’ (Exclusive)

Leslie Mann, Ike Barinholtz, and John Cena are set to star in Kay Cannon’s directorial debut, “The Pact.”
Eben Russell, Jon Hurwitz and Hayden Schlossberg, and brothers Brian and Jim Kehoe penned the script for Point Grey, Good Universe, Hurwitz & Schlossberg Productions, and Dmg.
The film follows three parents who, upon discovering that their daughters have made a pact to lose their virginities on prom night, go out and try and stop them before it’s too late.
Point Grey’s Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg, and James Weaver will produce alongside Hurwitz and Schlossberg, and Dmg Entertainment’s Chris Fenton. Nathan Kahane and Joe Drake of Good Universe will executive produce with Chris Cowles of Dmg. John Fagen will oversee for Point Grey.
Mann most recently starred in New Line’s “How to Be Single” and Sony Classics’ “The Comedian,” which should be a contender at the upcoming Golden Globes. »

Screenwriter says that leading actor won’t return for sequel Soldado, but co-stars Benicio Del Toro and Josh Brolin have roles
The screenwriter behind the hit crime thriller Sicario and its upcoming sequel, Soldado, has revealed that he is writing Emily Blunt’s character out of the followup. Speaking to The Wrap, Taylor Sheridan said: “That was my decision, and at some point I’m going to have to talk to her about it.”
In the 2015 movie, Blunt played an FBI agent who must navigate a complex web of double bluffs to take down a Mexican drug cartel. Benicio Del Toro and Josh Brolin play her colleague and boss respectively; the first film ends – spoiler alert – with Blunt’s character unable to exact revenge for a series of professional compromises.

The Slamdance Film Festival has unveiled its 23rd annual narrative and documentary feature film competition lineup, Variety has learned.
The festival, launched in 1995 as an alternative to Sundance, has included showings of such notable titles as Oren Peli’s “Paranormal Activity.” The fest, which takes place at the Treasure Mountain Inn in Park City, Utah, from Jan. 20 to Jan. 26, will screen 19 movies: 12 world premieres, three North American debuts, and one U.S. launch.
The narrative competition has 11 titles, while the documentary category boasts eight. Buenos Aires-based producer Ignacio Rey is priming Argentina’s first ever VFX-laden live action fantasy pic “Yanka y el espiritu del Volcan,” a $2.5 million kid-targeted drama based on a Mapuche legend. The coming-of-age pic tracks a young girl called Yanka who in her quest to find her lost mother, comes upon some some otherworldly creatures and a volcano where she discovers that she is among the few who can tame the angry spirit lurking in it.
The feature directorial debut of ad maven Ivan Abello has been in post for some 18 months given its 300 VFX shots rendered by Fernando Sirianni’s Nomad VFX, a co-producer, and is expected to be completed by March for a July 2017 debut.

Jim Parsons is adding yet another project to his growing development slate.
“The Big Bang Theory” star is executive producing “Lance 2.0,” a single-camera comedy from writer Alex McAulay, Variety has learned exclusively. The series centers around a young couple that deals with the aftermath when the boyfriend has an accident that changes his personality and causes him to lose his impulse control.
McAulay penned the pilot and will serve as co-executive producer, working alongside Parsons who is exec producing with Todd Spiewak. Eric Norsoph, head of development and production for Parsons’ shingle, That’s Wonderful, will oversee the project for the company. Warner Bros. Television is the studio.

Lionsgate is eyeing “10 Cloverfield Lane” director Daniel Trachtenberg for its Harry Houdini biopic, which had been in development for several years.
Johnny Depp had been in early talks in 2014 to star as Houdini in the movie, based on the biography “The Secret Life of Houdini: The Making of America’s First Superhero.” But Depp’s deal did not go through and no other actors are currently attached.

At&T unveiled the pricing plan on Monday for its DirecTV Now streaming service that will bring the satcaster into the burgeoning business of offering low- and mid-priced streaming channel packages.
At&T also announced it has set separate streaming channel pacts with music superstar Taylor Swift and actress Reese Witherspoon.
At&T Entertainment Group CEO John Stankey billed DirecTV Now as “rules-free TV” for those who are cost-conscious and want the flexibility to stream channels across various devices.
The DirecTV Now pricing plans range from $35 a month for a collection of 60-plus channels, $50 a month for 80-plus channels, $60 a month for 100-plus channels, and top out at $70 a month for 120-plus channels. In what is sure to be an introductory discount price, At&T said HBO and Cinemax can be added to DirecTV Now packages for $5 a month apiece. DirecTV Now goes live on Wednesday.

“Spider-Man” lead Tom Holland is in talks to star opposite Daisy Ridley in Lionsgate’s adaptation of the YA novel “Chaos Walking.”
Doug Liman is directing the project, an adaptation of Patrick Ness’ best-selling book. Sources reveal that the film is still far on the horizon, considering Ridley, Holland, and Liman’s busy schedules. The project has not yet receievd a greenlight or production start date.
The film takes place in a world where all women have been killed by a germ and all living creatures can hear one another’s thoughts in a stream of images, words, and sounds simply called “noise.”
Charlie Kaufman and Jamie Linden worked on previous versions of the script. Doug Davison is producing the movie alongside Allison Shearmur.
