Information For New Students

Matriculation
The University’s matriculation requirements are under review at the time of writing (September 2007) and may well change for 2009 entry. You are advised to check the College or University websites for updated information about these requirements. You should also check the University website to see whether there are any specific subject requirements for the Cambridge course you intend to apply for.

If you are not going to be 18 by 1st October in the year of entry, please contact the Admissions Office for guidance.

How important are extra-curricular activities?
Selection is based on academic criteria. We are, of course, interested to see what you do when you are not studying, and we aim to select students who have the potential to thrive in the Cambridge environment and to achieve at the highest level academically.

Deferred entry and post-A level applications
We are very happy to receive applications for all subjects, except Mathematics, from applicants who wish to take a gap year before commencing their studies. It is not essential that you do something related to your chosen course of study for the whole of your year out, but it is a good idea to demonstrate that you have given thought to how you will ensure that you are well prepared to begin your studies after a year away from the classroom.

We are also happy to consider applications from anyone who has decided to apply once they have completed their A level studies (or equivalent), so long as they meet our entry requirements, or are taking steps to meet them at the time of application. Again, we will be interested to hear how you intend to spend your year out.

Mature applicants
All Cambridge Colleges admit mature students, and at Corpus we are very happy to receive applications from applicants who will be 21 or over by 1 October in their intended year of entry. The academic standards expected of mature students are the same as those expected of school leavers. If you require any advice or guidance, please contact our Admissions Office before you make your formal application.
