'I REALLY wanted to make it there!' Lindsay Lohan apologises to the people of Kettering in new social media post after confirming she won't be turning on their Christmas lights
Lindsay Lohan has apologised to the people of Kettering after a busy festive schedule resulted in her rejecting an offer to turn on their Christmas lights.
The American actress, 30, had been invited to turn on the Christmas lights in the quaint Northamptonshire town, weeks after offending its occupants with a dismissive tweet posted as 53% of the United Kingdom voted to leave the European Union.
Live tweeting throughout the night, the redhead questioned: 'Sorry, but #KETTERING where are you & why is this woman speaking on people rather than TELLING us what happens if UK LEAVES?' (sic)

Sorry guys: Lindsay Lohan has apologised to the people of Kettering after a busy festive schedule resulted in her rejecting an offer to turn on their Christmas lights
But after turning down the offer made by local MP’s Chris Grayling and Philip Hollobone, Lindsay apologised to the town, population 67, 635, in a rather more charitable post shared across social media on Thursday afternoon.
Uploading a brief video message, the former child star sports the playful floral crown filter common amongst Snapchat users while explaining her work commitments made a flying visit to Northamptonshire impossible.
‘Hi everyone in Kettering, it’s Lindsay Lohan,’ she announced. ‘I really wanted to make it there to light the tree but with my busy schedule I wasn’t able to, but I appreciate the offer. Happy holidays!’

Hollobone had previously expressed doubt about her appearance after the actress's manager insisted she needed to 'check her diary.'
'As of today, she isn't coming,' he told the BBC. 'But, you never know, she might turn up at the last minute.
'I think that when you're an international celebrity who says you're going to do something then people expect you to do it.'
Special invitation: Lindsay had been approached by Hollobone and Grayling on Twitter shortly after posting a running commentary on the EU referendum results as they filtered in
He added: 'I think most of us thought that she wouldn't actually come but I think there was a little bit of all of us that hoped she would.'

Skeptical: Local MP Philip Hollobone had previously expressed doubt about her appearance after the actress's manager insisted she needed to 'check her diary'
Clearly not impressed with her disregard for the town., Hollobone scoffed to the House of Commons the following month: 'Apart from the fact it might be the most average town in the country, everyone knows where Kettering is.
'It's famous as the home of Weetabix breakfast cereal, Cheaney's and Loake's shoes, and Kettering Town football club has scored more goals in the history of the FA Cup than any other football team in the country.'
Former EastEnders actress Cheryl Fergison, currently appearing in a pantomime version of Beauty and the Beast in the town, will now turn on the lights with West End star Lucie Downer and a group of local children on Thursday evening.
Taking to Twitter that afternoon, the star confirmed her own attendance, but suffered a minor gaffe by misspelling Lindsay's surname.
She wrote: 'Lindsay Logan's loss is my absolute pleasure Kettering...it's gonna b a cracking Xmas ...Us Eastenders know how 2 party..panto time.'
