The 'I Left My Heart in San Francisco' singer tried to grab hold of a prop on the float.

Miss Piggy quickly put her arm out to help steady Bennett and stop him falling off the float.

She was one of several Muppets, including Kermit the Frog, out in force to help celebrate the parade.

Crowds, some as many as 10 deep, lined the parade route, which started on Manhattan's Upper West Side and made its way down to Macy's flagship store on 34th Street.

Another 50 million were expected to be watching the parade at home with the nationally televised ritual intiating the holiday shopping season.

There was a heavy police presence at this year's parade with sand-filled trucks, radiation detectors, bomb-sniffing dogs and heavily armed officers in place to ward off any threats of a terror attack.

Officers carrying assault rifles and bomb-sniffing dogs also lined the parade route, along with plainclothes officers in the crowd.
