Fidel Castro, who led the country of Cuba for nearly half a century, died on Friday at the age of 90. Raul Castro announced his brother's death on state television (bottom right) and said he will be cremated on Saturday. Castro led Cuba for nearly half a century as both prime minister and president. The controversial leader made his last official appearance before the country's Communist party in April and predicted that his death was near. He claimed in the past to have survived 634 assassination attempts, mainly masterminded by the CIA. Castro was 32 when he overthrew dictator Fulgencio Batista's government in 1959. The US severed diplomatic ties in 1961, banning all exports to Cuba except for food and medicine. Castro's brother Raul and President Obama moved to restore diplomatic ties in December 2014.

Cubans living in Miami celebrated the death of communist dictator Fidel Castro early Saturday morning with a traditional commemoration: banging pots and pans.

The controversial Communist leader, who ruled his country with an iron fist as a one-party state from 1959 to 2008, spent most of his fifty years in the cross-hairs of the U.S. government.

Bearded and ferocious, Fidel Castro ruled Cuba unchallenged for nearly half a century despite being hated by the United States whose secret service more than once tried to assassinate him.

Struggling 'JAMS' are a government priority after Philip Hammond's Autumn Statement

They have at least one parent in full-time work, less than a month's income in savings and make up about six million households in the UK. But who, exactly, are the JAM (Just About Managing) families that Chancellor Philip Hammond targeted with tax breaks in his Autumn Statement? The newly defined social class has been at the centre of economic debate this week, with experts seemingly unable to agree on what makes a JAM family. Are they the low-income working class, eking out a living on the minimum wage? Or the 'squeezed middle' who bring home more than the £27,500 average salary each, but are still in debt every month? What about high earners who say they are still crippled by the cost of childcare? These four families - on wildly different incomes - all insist they fit the criteria. Here, we reveal a detailed breakdown of their income and their monthly spending. So, which would you say are Just About Managing?

How Princess Diana could have been Donald Trump's First Lady

Those who were there still recall how dazzling Diana was that night (left). She wore diamond and pearl drop earrings and a velvet gown that was alluringly low-cut. It was December 1995, and fate had placed Donald Trump on the princess's table, although his second wife Marla was also present (inset). Diana had greeted him and other major donors earlier at the reception. She'd already met the tycoon several times, mostly at charity functions, but didn't know him well, although he'd offered her complimentary membership of his Florida country club, Mar-a-lago - an offer she declined. She was certainly well aware of his reputation with women, though he had never made a pass at her. For his part, Trump (right with wife Melania) had noted Diana's qualities in some detail.
