Finally! Arnold Schwarzenegger gets his chance to feel like the president and sit behind the Oval Office desk (but it's only a replica at the Richard Nixon museum)

  • Schwarzenegger visited Nixon's library in Yorba Linda, CA on Wednesday
  • Took his Snapchat followers along for the ride of the new exhibits
  • Toured displays about the Vietnam and Cold Wars and domestic policy
  • Nixon was the president who inspired Schwarzenegger to join GOP party

Arnold Schwarzenegger may never be allowed to run for president, but the former California governor finally got the chance to sit behind the desk at the Oval Office.

It may have just been a replica, but Schwarzenegger was still excited as he took a Snapchat at the Richard Nixon Presidential Library and Museum on Wednesday.

'Finally,' he wrote as the caption for the picture, even holding up some papers as he tried to look his most presidential behind Nixon's desk.

The former Terminator star excitedly took his Snapchat followers along for the ride as he toured the new exhibits at the Yorba Linda, California museum.

First stop was none other than a picture of Schwarzenegger himself with the former president.

'This is where I saw President Nixon for the last timer in 1991,' he told his followers in the video.

Schwarzenegger then took a picture of a Nixon quote from 1969, making sure to proudly point at the words as he implored his followers to read them.

'In these difficult years, America has suffered from a fever of words,' the quote, painted on a wall in the museum, read.

'We cannot learn from one another until we stop shouting at one another.'

Schwarzenegger then gave his fans a quick tour of the Oval Office replica, before moving onto an exhibit about the Vietnam War.

'When Nixon became president there were 550,000 troops in Vietnam,' Schwarzenegger told his followers.

'Literally, when he left office, there were zero.'

Schwarzenegger also showed off the new space display at the museum, giving his followers a glimpse of a 'cool bunch of astronaut' statues on view.

The former governor then went into an exhibit dedicated to Nixon's domestic policy vision, citing the fact that Nixon created the Environmental Protection Agency.

'President Nixon was also a great environmentalist who was very adamant about keeping the water, the air, the ground clean,' Schwarzenegger said on the clip.

Schwarzenegger then posed for a picture with cut-outs of Nixon and his wife Pat behind a backdrop of the Great Wall of China.

Although his political career has come to an end, Schwarzenegger has remained outspoken about the state of the US government.

In October he joined the growing list of Republicans who denounced Donald Trump, explicitly writing on Instagram that he would not vote for the Republican candidate for president.

Schwarzenegger told his followers that it was the first time since he became an American citizen in 1983 that he would not be casting a ballot for the GOP.

He revealed that he joined the Republican party when he first moved to America in 1968 and 'heard Nixon's words about getting the government off our backs, free trade, and defending our liberty with a strong military'.

But the day after Trump was elected president,  Schwarzenegger pleaded for unity.

‘The campaign is over the election is over and we are not enemies,' he said in a video message to his Twitter followers.

'We are neighbors, we are friends, and most importantly we are all Americans and we have a lot of work to do to keep America great.'

'So let’s do it, and let’s do it together.’

Schwarzenegger also took a moment to snap a picture with a portrait of George Washington
