Solange Knowles and her family and friends were spotted lazing on a yacht anchored off the coast of Miami, Florida, on Wednesday - a day before the national holiday.

While most of the US shivered under rain and freezing temperatures, the thermometer topped out at a sizzling 79F with a pleasant, cooling sea breeze, in Miami.

Perfect Thanksgiving: Solange Knowles was spotted on a yacht moored off the coast of Miami, Florida, with her friends and family on Wednesday

And the 30-year-old pop star took advantage of the beautiful weather to slip on a silky orange maxi-dress with narrow straps that skimmed her perfect figure.

Solange made no attempt to tame her unruly brunette tresses, leaving her hair to tumble in a mass of curls over her shoulders.

At one point she put on a pair of large sunglasses with white frames to protect her eyes from the bright sunlight.

She was joined by her husband of two years, Alan Ferguson.

Also along for the ride was her 12-year-old son, Daniel Smith Jr., whom she shares with her first husband, Daniel Smith.

Meanwhile, the younger sister of 35-year-old pop star Beyonce, put in an appearance at Love On Louisiana: An Essence Hometown Heroes Tribute in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, on Sunday.

The holiday dinner honoured standout students and teachers affected by the devastating Louisiana flood in mid-August, when 31 inches of rain fell in some areas, killing 13 people and causing more than $8.7 billion in estimated damage.

Solange took to instagram on Wednesday to share a picture of herself in a lilac-coloured suit with some of the honourees.

She captioned it: 'Me being in awe of the heroes like teenagers Jeremiah, Jermain, and Levi Lewis who courageously helped rescue and rebuild after the Baton Rouge floods.

'Thank you for letting me be a part of #loveonlouisiana to let the world know that Baton Rouge is not forgotten, and that there is still a lot of work to do…. and to honor those who already did so much of it.'
