Sweet charity: Emmy Rossum dazzles in chef's hat and apron as she volunteers to feed the homeless on Skid Row

She revealing this week that her fiance proposed to her when she was naked.

However, Emmy Rossum was fully wrapped up and ready to go as she served up food for the homeless in Los Angeles on Wednesday.

The 30-year-old actress joined forces at the L.A. Mission ahead of Thanksgiving day, to offer food to those in need.

The Shameless beauty got ready for action by wearing a bright red apron and chef's hat. 

A natural beauty, she kept her make-up minimal, showcasing her flawless skin and stunning smile. 

Her brunette tresses were expertly coiffured, although covered by her hat for much of the time she was volunteering on Skid Row.

The star was a hands on help as she dished out hot food in the area, which is home to the nation's largest concentration of homeless people.  

There are an estimated 46,874 homeless people in Los Angeles county, an increase of 2,515 year on year, according to October 2016 figures

She told the story of her proposal to her fiancé Sam Esmail, which took place in August 2015.

The star revealed that he popped the question while she was in the bathtub.

The talented actress told the news, which will air on Chelsea's show on Netflix on Thursday.

'I happened to be in the bathtub when it happened,' Rossum told Handler. 

'And then I realized that it was happening. And then I got out of the bathtub because I didn't want the story to be that I was in the bathtub when it was happening.  

'And then I got cold as it was still going on, got back in the bathtub. It was a comedy of errors but it all worked out.'

The actress said she believed her husband-to-be wanted to surprise her.

'I really was not expecting it in the bathtub,' she continued. 

Handler then asked her if this was a lifelong dream of hers but apparently Rossum had never thought of the romantic proposal like that.

She said she instead was always focused on marriage itself: 'I was more excited by the idea, the concept of marriage and togetherness with the person and unity,' she explains.

Rossum and Esmail, who created the series Mr. Robot, had been dating for two years before he proposed.
