Sultan Qaboos Research Fellowship/College Lectureship in Mathematics
Following a generous benefaction from the Sultan of Oman, Corpus Christi College, Cambridge (UK), seeks to appoint its first Sultan Qaboos Research Fellow/Lecturer in Mathematics from October 2015 (or as soon as possible thereafter). Applications are invited from researchers in any fields of mathematics, but preference may be given to candidates in an applied field. It is envisaged that the successful candidate will be a scholar in the early stages of his or her career for whom a short-term post would prove to be an attractive opportunity to enhance their research and academic profile. He or she will be elected a Fellow of the College, and will carry the title of Sultan Qaboos Research Fellow/Lecturer in Mathematics.
The appointment will be for a fixed term of three years, and the salary will be, depending on seniority, on point 38-44 of the Cambridge University Spine (currently corresponding to c. £27,000-c. £32,000 p.a.). The appointee will also enjoy all the privileges of a College Fellowship, for example seven meals per week at common table. Lecturing (by invitation) for the Faculty of Mathematics would attract additional remuneration.
A Research Fellow is expected to pursue learning and research in his or her chosen field and publish the results. The College’s academic environment will provide favourable conditions for research, which will be undertaken freely and without supervision on the part of the College.
As a College Lecturer, the teaching requirement will be up to six hours per week during Full Term, comprised of small-group supervisions for the undergraduates of Corpus Christi College or, by exchange arrangements, of other Colleges. The successful candidate will be expected to direct Studies in Mathematics if needed, to participate in the recruitment and admission of undergraduate students to the College (including College and University open days), and to encourage the wider flourishing of the mathematical community at Corpus.
The Sultan Qaboos Fellow in Mathematics will also be required to report annually on his or her academic activities and achievements, as well as maintain communications with the endowing party and, through them, with other appointees to similarly endowed positions at other universities.

They should include a covering letter detailing the applicant’s interest in the post and which Mathematical Tripos subjects the applicant proposes to teach, a curriculum vitae with details of the candidate’s education record, publications, research, teaching and professional experience, one publication or a piece of work representative of the candidate’s research at its best, and the names and addresses of three referees. Mathematics at Corpus
Corpus Christi College admits between four and seven undergraduate mathematicians per year and so there are 18-20 undergraduates in residence in total. In addition there are around 12 Part III/Master of Mathematics and PhD students forming part of the College’s large graduate community, centered around Leckhampton House, off Grange Road.
