'I didn't want to rely on a man to provide': Chelsea Handler, 41, explains why she has always wanted to earn her own money 

The comedian, TV host, and author is known for being outspoken. 

And Chelsea Handler was her usually candid self as she talked money, men, and marriage in a new issue of People magazine. 

The 41-year-old, who's current chat show Chelsea airs on Netflix, revealed a few of the driving forces behind her success and work ethic. 'That’s all I got going on. It’s not like I’m married or have babies. The show is like a dream come true for me. Work hard, play hard,' she said.

Chelsea also divulged that her independence and business model comes from a humble childhood of being raised with five siblings by her used-car salesman father, Seymour, and homemaker mother, Rita. 

'I always wanted the opposite of what I had growing up,' the New Jersey native said.  

She continued: 'I didn’t ever want to rely on a man to provide for me.'

'All my life I've wanted to create something that was completely and utterly mine. And I didn’t want anybody in my life dictating what I do,' added Chelsea.  

However, that doesn't mean the blonde beauty, who has dated rapper 50 Cent and hotelier Andre Balazs in the past, doesn't wish for a little romance in her life. 

The single star told the magazine, 'I do want to be in love, but no one is knocking at my door. L.A. is weird. Everyone is gay or married.'

Chelsea, who lives in Los Angeles with her two rescue dogs, Chunk and Tammy, joked, 'I guess, I've got to wait for a bunch of people to get divorced.'

But regardless of her relationship status, Chelsea, who's Netflix show is wrapping up it's first season, is content. 

'I don’t really have anyone to answer to,' she said. 'That’s nice for work and it’s nice for life!'
