She is one of the famous faces featuring in Pirelli's 2017 calendar, which celebrates 'natural beauty and femininity'.

And Nicole Kidman was leading the glamour at the gala dinner in Paris to mark the release of the iconic collection of images on Tuesday night.

The Australian actress, 49, looked sensational in a slinky silver gown as she walked the red carpet alongside fellow A-listers including Uma Thurman and Helen Mirren.

The stars were out in full force to celebrate the new Pirelli calendar for 2017 including Helen Mirren, Uma Thurman and Charlotte Rampling.

But the star of the night was undoubtedly Nicole Kidman, who dazzled in a shimmering metallic gown by Armani Privé that was pulled from the Fall 2016 couture runway show.

Nicole was the picture of elegance in her sequinned gown, featuring subtle cut-outs running down the sides and tie detailing on the shoulders.

The Hours star completed her ensemble with simple black heels and dazzling silver jewellery.

She looked elegant as ever, sweeping her strawberry blonde locks up into a classic updo.

Meanwhile, Uma looked elegant in a simple blue dress with a fishtail skirt as she joined her at the star-studded event.

The sombre number complemented her recently brunette locks, which were coiffed in an elegant updo set off by teal and gold earrings. 

Pirelli's 2017 calendar celebrates 'natural beauty and femininity' by showcasing some of Hollywood's most glamorous and mature stars - such as Kidman, Mirren, Thurman and Julianne Moore.

This year, the famed calendar sees photographer Peter Lindbergh move beyond snaps of semi-nude models and set his lens on Hollywood.

The calendar, entitled "Emotional" and launched in Paris, stars 14 Oscar-winning actresses featured in close up in black and white images and in mainly clothed poses.

It's a dramatic move away from decades of risque shots that made the calendar produced by the Italian tire manufacturer one of the most recognizable in the world.

A roll call of A-listers including Charlotte Rampling, Uma Thurman, Helen Mirren, Nicole Kidman, Lea Seydoux, Alicia Vikander, Kate Winslet, Julianne Moore, Robin Wright, Lupita Nyong'o, Rooney Mara and Jessica Chastain all agreed to go near-makeup-free for the grown-up shoots.

Speaking about his artistic choices, Lindbergh said that he's 'not so fond of high heels and bikini' and wanted to capture the nakedness in the soul of the calendars stars, not their bodies.

Mirren, 71, said that the calendar's move toward less sexualized images of women — begun in last year's edition by Annie Leibovitz — marks 'undoubtedly a cultural shift, a real opening up and a big change.'

Kidman, 49, added that the choice to forgo makeup and proudly look your age projects a good example of what natural beauty should be.

'(It shows that) the courage to be yourself is the epitome of confidence and power', she said, adding that 'my husband (singer Keith Urban) totally prefers me without makeup on.'

Gushing about the 2017 edition, Mirren added that it should be used as a benchmark for young women.

'My advice for young girls would be to look at the Pirelli calendar,' the actress said. 'The reality is we live, we love, we continue, we contribute and that's the role of women.

'It's incredibly challenging for young girls these days and we must remind them that life goes on for a long time and you'll be many things in that time.' 

Of the calendar's concept, Lindbergh said: 'There's a terror surrounding perfection and youth. It was a dangerous ideal for me to have. It was very risky but I wanted to avoid manipulating the pictures.

'Your thoughts and your experiences make you look the way you look. If you accept yourself there's no way you can't be beautiful.'

He concluded by providing his take on the modern idea of sex and glamour: 'Now we are in a really good place. I'm not fond of high heels and bikinis. That to me is not sexy.'
