'It's odd but as long as they're mature': Michael Fassbender opens up about having older women fawn all over him

He's become somewhat of a Hollywood heartthrob.

And Michael Fassbender, currently on the promotional trail for film Assassin's Creed, revealed to Rove and Sam on Thursday, what it's like to have grown women fawn all over him.

'As long as they're mature....[but] it's odd,' the 39-year-old shared to radio host Sam Frost, 23.

The Irish-German actor is currently on the promotional trail for his latest film Assassin's Creed.

Based on the Ubisoft video game of the same name, Michael and his co-star Marion Cotillard explore the scientific and philosophical potential of humans, looking at concepts such as genetic memory and who controls free will.

Michael plays Callum Lynch who discovers through a genetic memory program that he comes from an underground order of assassins involved in a centuries-old war with the Knights Templar.

Michael found himself really believing this idea that memories could be shared over generations. 

'When I met the guys from Ubisoft and they explained this I thought 'wow that's fascinating and totally plausible' and I believe today scientists are investigating this like 'why do birds know when to migrate south, where does this information come from?'' Michael told AAP in Sydney.

'One belief is that 'Yes, there is this information in our actual DNA that has been passed on from our ancestors,' he continued.

Invested: Oscar-winner Marion was also attracted to the movie's real-life possibilities, telling AAP in Sydney: 'I think any story about human beings, even if it's based on a video game, even if it's science fiction in a virtual world, always comes from a certain kind of reality in the world we live in'

His co-star in the film, Oscar-winner Marion Cotillard, 41, was also attracted to the movie's real-life possibilities.

'I think any story about human beings, even if it's based on a video game, even if it's science fiction in a virtual world, always comes from a certain kind of reality in the world we live in,' Marion told AAP.  

This is the second time that Michael, who serves as a producer on the film, has partnered with the French actress. 

The pair starred together in Macbeth, directed by Australian director Justin Kurzel who takes the helm on Assassin's Creed too. 

Assassin's Creed opens in Australian cinemas on January 1.
