'He's so much like his dad': Proud mum Terri Irwin gushes about her son Robert's similarities to late husband Steve... after the 13-year-old was bitten by the biggest snake in Australia

He's the young wildlife warrior who is continuing his late father's legacy at the tender age of 13.

And on his birthday this Thursday, mother Terri Irwin revealed her son Robert is becoming more like his father Steve Irwin everyday.

Speaking to the Today show, the proud mum said it was heartwarming to see her boy getting older.

'He's so much like his dad': On Robert Irwin's 13th birthday on Thursday, his mother Terri Irwin revealed the teen becomes more like his dad Steve Irwin everyday 

'It's amazing because he's so much like his dad,' Terri said. 

'Robert's into photography and wildlife and getting into the ocean. All the things that Steve loves. 

'So it's very beautiful watching Robert grow up.'

The zookeeper's comments come as the birthday boy told Rove and Sam's 2DayFM show he had been bitten by a wild scrub python.

According to the teen, the snake is considered to be the biggest in Australia.

'All of a sudden it decided to get really angry and it latched onto my ankle, and it bit me really, really hard. It was amazing. It was so cool to watch!' Robert said.

'It was so funny, because my whole sock just turned red with blood and everyone was just freaking out.'

Older sister Bindi took to Instagram to post a heartwarming birthday snap of Robert.

She posted an adorable photo of the golden-haired teen when he was a toddler, holding a piece of wood with a lizard on the end.

'Happy Birthday to this amazing human being, my brother,' Bindi wrote.

'Today you turn 13 and I am so proud of you. This photo was taken many years ago, I still can't believe that today you're a teenager. Since the first day I met you, when you were born, I knew you were destined for great things. You inspire me every day. I love you.' 

The youngster also used the celebrations to launch his own Instagram account, which he will use to promote his photography and animal advocacy campaigns.
