A 14-year-old Pennsylvania boy is accused of shooting his mother and eight-year-old brother each with a single bullet to the forehead as they slept and then trying to frame his father for the killings.

State Police Trooper Stephen Limani says Jacob Remaley called 911 just before 7am Wednesday, saying his mother and younger brother were dead and his father placed a gun in his bed before leaving the house.

State police say Jacob later confessed that he took an unloaded handgun from atop the refrigerator, loaded it with a magazine and intentionally shot 46-year-old Dana Remaley and Caleb Remaley in their beds after his father, David, went to work.

Disturbing crime: Jacob Remaley, 14 (left), is suspected of shooting dead his mother, Dana Remaley, and his eight-year-old brother, Caleb (pictured together, right), as they slept

Police say Jacob then called 911, insinuating that his father, David (pictured far left) was to blame for the killings

Remaley also allegedly told police he would have shot his father, too, had he been home.

David Remaley had left the house to go to work at a VA hospital at around 5.40am and was not harmed.

On Wednesday, the 14-year-old suspect was charged as an adult with two counts each of criminal homicide and third-degree murder.

He is expected to be formally arraigned following the completion of an unspecified medical treatment and a mental health evaluation.

Limani says the only indication of a motive is that the teen and his parents weren't getting along lately, but by all accounts, Jacob and his younger brother were on good terms.

According to a probable cause affidavit cited by TribLive.com, Jacob shot first his mother, then his brother in the forehead with a Ruger .380 handgun inside the family's home on Thermo Village Road in New Stanton just before 7am.

At 6.53am, Jacob made a 911 call telling a dispatcher that his father had shot his mother and brother.

'Why didn't he kill me? I need help,' Remaley was quoted in the affidavit as telling the operator.

He then hung up the phone, but called back a short time later, loudly accusing the operator of hanging up on him and demanding that an ambulance be sent to his home.

Crime scene: Dana and Caleb Remaley were pronounced dead at their home in New Stanton, Pennsylvania, Wednesday morning

Remaley reportedly met paramedics in the front yard, wearing only a T-shirt and underwear

First responders who arrived on the scene found the 14-year-old boy standing in the front yard with blood on his knee, wearing only a T-shirt and boxer briefs, and repeating the word, 'Mom.'

The responding paramedics handed Remaley a blanket, after which he went back inside the house.

Before troopers arrived, Jacob apparently retrieved the handgun and was walking down the street carrying it when he encountered a female neighbor, police said.

That neighbor told the boy she loved him and convinced him to discard the gun and approach officers. Jacob said in reply, 'I love my mom, too,' reported the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.

'That neighbor did a very good job in de-escalating the situation,' Limani said. 'The last thing we want to do is approach a 14-year-old with a firearm.'

Jacob Remaley was later taken to a hospital where he was questioned by police and made his confession, according to the affidavit.

Jacob is suspected of shooting his younger brother, a third-grader (left), in the forehead as the child slept

Dana Remaley and her eight-year-old son were pronounced dead at the scene shortly after 9am. Police have recovered the suspected murder weapon.

Mrs Remaley worked as a personal care assistant at West Hempfield Middle School. Her son Caleb was a third-grader at Stanwood Elementary School, and Jacob attended Hempfield High School.

A friend of the family described Jacob as a polite, kind, straight-A student who was involved in sports and in church.

Anita Stoner told WTAE-TV her son is a good friend of the boy's, and she was friends with Dana Remaley.

'He's such a good kid,' she said. 'If you could pick a friend for your kid it would be Jacob.'

Speaking to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette on the phone Thursday, David Remaley's father, also named David, said his 52-year-old son is a US Army veteran who had served in Iraq, and who is now employed as a master plumber at the VA Hospital in Pittsburgh.

'Confession': Jacob Remaley allegedly told police he would have killed his dad (center) as well, had he been home at the time

Mr Remaley had a license to carry and had a handgun on him at all times, and at least one other firearm at home, according to his father.

Joyce Remaley, David Sr's second wife, told the paper that even though she was not Jacob and Caleb's biological grandmother, she considered them her grandsons, and she had a special bond with the older boy.

Mrs Remaley recounted a conversation she had with Jacob months earlier, in which the teen, whom she described as religiously devout, confided in her that he was troubled because his mother was 'mad at God' over the death of her own mother, who lost her battle with cancer a decade ago.

Jacob was also reportedly bothered that Dana did not attend services at his Catholic church.

Joyce Remaley, 75, described Jacob as a 'meek,' tender' and 'loving' boy who enjoyed reading, but was also good at sports. She added that the teen and his younger brother were very close, and that Caleb went to Jacob 'for everything.'
