'Food has this wonderful ability': Nigella Lawson reveals how she found comfort in cooking after public marriage breakdown

She's the culinary queen known for her friendly attitude and hearty recipes.

And, Nigella Lawson appears to have used her cooking expertise as therapy after her public breakdown from then-husband Charles Saatchi in 2013.

The 56-year-old revealed she found comfort in the kitchen during stressful moment in her life, in an interview with The Daily Telegraph on Sunday.

Nigella was pictured in June 2013 being choked at the hand of her partner at their favourite restaurant, Scott's, seen fleeing in tears from the table.

'Food has this wonderful ability to connect me with the world in a way that makes me feel grounded,' she said.

Further elaborating, the celebrity chef explained the manual labour tasks, like chopping, stirring or watching the stove kept her mind preoccupied and calm.

The TV personality added: 'Food should make you feel good while you’re cooking it, not just while you’re eating it.'

'That’s what it feels like for me. I think that’s why I strive for things to be simple,' Nigella said.

She's been known in the past for creating 'quick' or 'easy' recipes for television viewers or at-home cooks, with her latest series based around simple recipes that are also delicious.

Nigella and Charles had been married for 10 years before they agreed to divorced in 2013 weeks after the shocking incident in London's Mayfair.

During the year of her public split, she was also embroiled in a bitter court case with former assistants charged with fraud. 

She has two children, Cosima, 22, and Bruno, 20, from her previous marriage to the late journalist John Diamond, while Charles had a daughter, Phoebe, 22, from a previous marriage.
