The 'arrogant' man behind illegal artist enclave where at least 33 died in fire checks in

This is the first picture taken of the man who ran the doomed Oakland Ghost Ship warehouse since it burnt down in a devastating fire on Friday night, killing at least 33 people. Derick Ion Almena was spotted just after checking into a smart hotel in Oakland city center last night with his wife Micah Allison. The pair ignored all questions from the Daily Mail Online but a pal who was with them, who declined to give his name, said they currently had no comment, just saying: 'No statements' before hurrying them into an elevator. This comes as it emerged Almena was warned repeatedly he had created a death trap but laughed off concerns, DailyMail.com has learned. A friend of Derick Ion Almena claims the venue operator was so 'arrogant' that he brushed off any fears surrounding his 'amazing' art space. Danielle Boudreaux, who has known Almena and his wife Micah Allison for eight years, even claims one visitor to the warehouse - known as the Oakland Ghost Ship - was so concerned about the state of the property that she told her fire-fighter husband who arranged for an immediate fire inspection because he feared it was a death trap.

Man armed with a rifle terrorizes customers at Washington Comet Ping Pong pizza shop

Edgar Maddison Welch, 28, was arrested and charged after he stormed into Comet Ping Pong in Washington D.C. on Sunday at about 3pm armed with a rifle. Police said Welch told them he went to the pizzeria to investigate 'pizza gate' - a bogus story on fake news sites prior to the election that claimed Hillary Clinton had run a child sex abuse ring there. Welch, from Salisbury in North Carolina, left customers and staff terrified when he walked through the front door and through to the back of the restaurant. Police said he pointed a gun at an employee and threatened them before they were able to escape and notify police. The gunman was said to be looking for the secret tunnels identified in the fake news stories where children were abused, a nearby shop owner said.

Kim Jong-un is preparing for invasion of South Korea through network of SECRET TUNNELS

South Korean officials already know about four tunnels under the border between the two countries - but they fear there could be as many as 16 more. It raises fears Pyongyang is plotting to invade the south and comes just two months after the secretive nation carried out nuclear bomb tests. South Korean authorities are still believed to be searching for tunnels under the demilitarised zone between the two countries. But the last one to be discovered was in 1990. The first was found a mile into South Korean territory in November 1974. An American officer and South Korean soldier were killed while investigating the tunnel when a bomb went off. Was this reporter killed because she was writing a tell-all about JFK's assassination?

On November 8, 1965, newspaper columnist and TV game show star Dorothy Kilgallen (left) was found dead of an alleged drug overdose in her Manhattan townhouse. Her death reportedly came just weeks before a trip she had planned to New Orleans to meet with a secret informant relating to an 18-month investigation she was conducting about John F Kennedy's assassination for a tell-all book. A medical examiner at the time ruled her death accidental, caused by a combination of sleeping pills and alcohol, and the case was closed. But lawyer and author Mark Shaw believes Kilgallen was the victim of foul play orchestrated by a mobster (Mafia Don Carlos Marcello pictured right) who feared her tell-all book would accuse him of being the mastermind behind Kennedy's assassination (pictured inset center). Shaw, author of The Reporter Who Knew Too Much (inset bottom left), is calling for a full investigation into Kilgallen's death, charging that her death was a homicide and was covered up, and that the main suspect still remains at large. The book is out on December 6.
