Style awards... or the night that fashion forgot? From neon tulle to too-tight jumpsuits, there were fewer hits than misses on the BFA 2016 red carpet
- The 2016 British Fashion Awards took place at London's Royal Albert Hall on Monday night
- Stars on the red carpet included Kate Moss, Naomi Campbell, Lady Gaga, Alexa Chung and Donatella Versace
- Fashion misses included model Adwoa Aboah's neon tulle dress and Tamara Beckwith in Gucci tartan
- Lily Donaldson's Burberry dress was daring yet elegant, and Mollie King was stunning in full-length florals
It's one of the biggest nights on Britain's fashion calendar, when supermodels and style icons alike pull out the big guns to make a statement on the red carpet.
But the pressure appeared to have gotten to some stars ahead of the 2016 British Fashion Awards, as there seemed to be fewer sartorial hits than misses parading before the cameras outside London's Royal Albert Hall on Monday night.
The fashion highs and lows ranged from elegant Burberry lace and sleek black Stella gowns, to layers of neon tulle and too-tight jumpsuits.

Lily Donaldson's sheer pink Burberry gown was daring yet elegant, but Adwoa Aboah's neon tulle number was garish
Actress Laura Haddock was a vision in layers of purple lace, but singer Pixie Lott's mermaid-esque look was less successful
Karlie Kloss looked sensational in sleek black Stella McCartney, but Tamara Beckwith overdid it with the accessories
Lily Donaldson chose a pale pink Burberry gown that managed to be both daring and elegant.
Fellow model Adwoa Aboah went in a different direction on the colour front, wearing a flouncy tulle number in garish neon yellow with black velvet ribbon ties.
The actress Laura Haddock was a vision in a purple tiered gown by Zuhair Murad, paired with a black Jimmy Choo clutch and a simple ponytail.
But singer Pixie Lott's satin, off the shoulder fishtail gown, which she teamed with a Dolce & Gabbana crown and a metallic handbag, strayed a little too close to fancy dress.
Model Karlie Kloss opted for a red carpet classic - a floor length black dress.
She looked stunning in her simple Stella McCartney dress, adorned only with a gold belt and flashes of flesh courtesy of cutaway side panels.
In contrast, Tamara Beckwith took the 'more is more' approach to accessorising, adding an embellished clutch, multi-strap shoes, a fur bolero and giant earrings to an already OTT Gucci dress.
Mollie King looked gorgeous in a floral, floor length dress with cutaway shoulders, but TV presenter Laura Whitmore's short dress was on the drab side
Only a supermodel could get away with wearing just a bandeau top and trousers on the red carpet - as Jourdan Dunn proves in Brandon Maxwell (left), but Daisy Lowe's pink Antonio Berardi jumpsuit did the gorgeous Strictly star no favours
The Saturdays singer Mollie King looked gorgeous in a floor length floral dress with cutaway shoulders, topped off with her signature beachy waves.
But the BFA red carpet saw a rare mis-step from stylish TV presenter Laura Whitmore, whose drab mini dress proved an underwhelming choice for such a glamorous occasion.
The actress Jenna Coleman matched her pretty ruffled gown by Erdem with a soft updo.
Salma Hayek is still every inch the bombshell, but her BFA dress, with its plunging scoop neckline and stiff, frilled sleeves, screamed 'flamenco', rather than fashion.
Jenna Coleman stood out in her distinctive, ruffled Erdem gown. Salma Hayek is still every inch the bombshell, but her dress screams 'flamenco', not fashion
When you're Alexa Chung, you can wear anything - including marabou trimmed pyjamas and a Prada handbag. But Nicole Scherzinger's barely there Julian McDonald jumpsuit - complete with cape - left nothing to the imagination
Alexa Chung's chosen outfit confirmed that luxe pyjamas are the new party dress.
Her quirky choice for the BFAs wasn't one of her red carpet classics, but when you're a style icon you can wear anything - including marabou-trimmed Prada PJs.
X Factor judge Nicole Scherzinger appeared determined not to be outshone by the many supermodels in attendance at the Royal Albert Hall.
But she could have chosen something classier than her barely there Julian McDonald jumpsuit - complete with cape - that exposed far too much.
