Pennsylvania State Police say 14-year-old Jacob Remaley shot his mother, Dana, and eight-year-old brother, Caleb, once each in the forehead and then called 911, pointing a finger of blame at his dad David. The family are pictured together left and the scene of the deadly shooting can be seen top and bottom right. State police say Jacob later confessed that he took an unloaded handgun from atop the refrigerator, loaded it with a magazine and intentionally fired the gun at his mom and brother.

Footage captured from the International Space Station has revealed a rare glimpse at North Korea's capital city, Pyongyang. The video, taken by the Iris camera on May 30, provides a rare look at life behind the city walls, with sparse traffic and even pedestrians visible in the clips. According to engineers from UrtheCast, people can be seen walking within the grounds of the Kumsusan Palace of the Sun, the massive tomb that houses the bodies of deceased leaders.

The city's parks department is considering granting 'limited' public access to North Brother Island, the 20-acre abandoned island which sits just 350 yards away from the South Bronx. Opened as a quarantine center in 1885, it was once home to hundreds of residents, including the notorious 'Typhoid Mary' - the first healthy carrier of any disease ever to be identified - who spent years confined in its bleak woods. Closed in 1963, it is now a haunting labyrinth of crumbling ruins. Protected birds are its only inhabitants and the waters around the island are patrolled by armed coastguards who ensure the sanctity of the former quarantine zone is never violated - until now.

The plane which crashed in Colombia, wiping out a Brazilian football team, was late taking off because crew had to search for one of the players' lost video games, it was revealed today. Demerson Costa (pictured, left), a defender and one of seven players who did not travel with the team to Medellin, said he saw a reference to the lost video game in a Whatsapp group used by all the players. Because of the delay the plane was unable to refuel at Cobija, an airport which does not operate after midnight. It ran out of fuel as it waited for a landing slot at Medellin and crashed into a mountainside (right).

A Rhode Island man who streamed himself on Facebook Live driving 116 mph and weaving in and out of traffic was critically injured when he crashed into a garbage truck and a concrete barrier, police say. Onasi Olio-Rojas, 20, of Pawtucket, lost control Wednesday on U.S. Route 6 in Providence, according to state police. The video posted on Olio-Rojas' Facebook page shows him driving 114 mph and weaving through traffic. At one point, the video shows him driving an incredible 116 mph.

A 17-year-old boy was arrested in Texas Wednesday for murdering his adoptive parents after a 12-hour stand-off with SWAT teams that ended in tear gas being deployed. Carl Edward Brewer (pictured left) is accused of murdering American Airlines pilot Troy Gene Brewer, 60, and his wife Mary Brewer (right), 64, in their house (inset) in Crowley, Texas.  Mary's body was stuffed into a trash receptacle, WFAA said. 

NEW An American fitness blogger has posted a photo of her bloated stomach to Instagram to show that even fitness gurus bloat. Kelsey Wells, a mum and blogger from Utah, said that she was often asked why she never bloats and why she doesn't get pimples. In response she posted a photo of her bloating (right), and told her followers to remember that Instagram is a 'highlight reel' that isn't 100 per cent real all the time.

NEW The shark bit the mammal in the shallows at Truro Beach, Cape Cod, thrashing it around to the shock of humans on the beach before the seal was able to shuffle to safety on the sand. Great white sharks are common in the area at this time of year, experts said after seeing the video.

Justin Normand, 53, held a sign saying 'you belong' outside a Dallas mosque last weekend after being angered by the hatred directed at Muslims during the recent presidential election. His sign read: 'You Belong. Stay Strong. Be Blessed. We Are One America.' He said didn't know anyone at the mosque, but some members who saw his sign thanked him and even offered flowers.

Husband-and-wife Syed Farook and Tashfeen Malik (right inset) killed 14 and injured 22 in a shooting in San Bernardino, California last December 2. Authorities now believe that the shooting may have been triggered by a mandatory Christmas party at Farook's work (Inland Regional Center, where the meeting was held, bottom left). In an email obtained by investigators, Malik complains that a Muslim should not be forced to attend a holiday party steeped in another religion. Farook attended part of the party before leaving and then returning with his wife to shoot many in the room dead. NEW Two robbery suspects (pictured left) who burst into a California convenience store were left running for their lives after a store clerk turned the tables on them and fired back. Surveillance footage from inside a 7-Eleven store in Fresno shows the moment a man brandishing a rifle, followed by a woman, went into the store and demanded money (pictured). A cashier then fired a round at the suspects who are seen quickly ran from the store during the attempted robbery on Monday just before 2am. Fresno police are now trying to identify the suspects.

A ginger cat has been filmed seeing snow for the first time. Tarachan, a cat that lives in Japan, was filmed looking bewildered by his owners as it began to snow on their terrace. In the video, he is seen sitting on a garden table trying to lick the snow off his fur. Tarachan then stands on his back legs and looks around and up at the sky, bewildered. The video was published on Instagram, where it has been watched more than 8,500 times.

An underwater photographer was taking pictures in the North Sea when a seal joined him for a photograph. Alex Mustard, who had flipped his camera around once he realised the pup was behind him, decided to take the picture when he saw how funny it was.The image has been featured in his new book, 'Secrets of the Seas', co-written with Callum Roberts.
