Despite her delight at returning to the UK, Scarlett faced critics just days before, who claimed she falsified a phobia of lifts during her victorious I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here stint.

Yet winner Scarlett lashed out at her critics as she defiantly insisted she suffers with claustrophobia rather than a fear of elevators, following her admission on the ITV show.

Eagle-eyed social media user noted that she shared a number of selfies in lifts before her stint on the show, where she faced a challenge in which she was encased in a box - after which she claimed to fear lifts and enclosed spaces.

Trying to de-elevate-'er?  winner Scarlett has lashed out at her critics as she defiantly insisted she suffers with claustrophobia rather than a fear of elevators, following her admission on the ITV show

In her final task ahead of her win, Scarlett was to be locked in a coffin-type box and joined by a mass of insects and bugs. When she was informed of this, she declared: 'I feel if I can do this I might finally be able to go into lifts.

'I was on the 34th floor [in the hotel she stayed at before the show began] and I walked the stairs because I can't stand small spaces.'

The admission caused the social media storm, yet a post-show interview with The Sun saw the star, who first found fame on now-defunct MTV show Beauty School Cop Outs, hit back at her critics.

Talking to the publication, she said: 'It’s not a lift phobia, it’s claustrophobia. Claustrophobia is being scared of confined spaces. I haven’t got a fear of lifts, I’ve got a fear of not being able to see an escape.

Oh no! Eagle-eyed social media user noted that the Gogglebox star, 26, shared a number of selfies in lifts before her stint on the show, where she faced a challenge in which she was encased in a box - after which she claimed to fear lifts and enclosed spaces

Claustrophobic? She faced critters galore, nasty jungle delicacies and confined spaces in order to earn her place on the I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here! throne

Uplifting: A statement the 26-year-old made when she was assigned her final Bushtucker Trial of the season has lead viewers to conduct some investigative journalism in order to catch the Gogglebox star out

Angry: Fans of the show were quick to slam Scarlett's claustrophobia claims

'It’s not just lifts, it’s the same if there’s too many bubbles in the bath. I can’t put my head under the water as if I opened my eyes I couldn’t see a way out...

'It’s more I like to be able to see how I can escape. I don’t know why my brain works like that. I feel like I’m conquering it but am not completely cured.'

The backlash Scarlett faced, included enraged Tweets, reading: 'Scarlett saying she's scared of lifts yet her Instagram is full of lift selfies... Some phobia you got there!' one viewer raged.

'@ScarlettMoffatt don't forget to delete all your lift selfies. So you can pretend to be scared of them still,' seethed another embittered tweeter.

'Considering you said you can't even go in a lift you seem to spend an awful lot of time in them @ScarlettMoffatt you are a FAKE!!!,' barked another upset viewer.

Lift me up: She was faced with one final task in which she was to be locked in a coffin-type box and joined by a mass of insects and bugs. When she was informed of this, the soon-to-be Queen of the Jungle declared: 'I feel if I can do this I might finally be able to go into lifts'

Give her a break: Some viewers were a lot kinder to Scarlett amid the frenzy of accusations

Elsewhere, fans of the star stood up for her on social media.

'All these idiots going mental cos Scarlett has lift selfies, aye cos that's the same as lying in a pitch black cave fulla beasties (sic),' one fan typed, referring to the Cavern Of Claws task she was put through.

According to The Sun, Scarlett elaborated on her apparent fear before she went into the jungle.

Fear or Faked? Sleuthing viewers fled to social media immediately to hunt for evidence to the contrary, unearthing Instagram and Twitter snaps galore of the brunette star standing in lifts with her boyfriend

'I was only trapped in the lift for about three minutes but at that age I thought I’d been there the full fortnight! I’ve been traumatised about lifts ever since. And I don’t like the dark.'

Scarlett's win was predicted by bookies way before it happened - and some have slammed the show for setting her up to succeed, with accusations that the show was fixed all along.

The note read: 'Keep being you, my beautiful little weirdo, me and the whole of the North East are behind you, miss you so much.'

Surviving her time in camp, Scarlett - who was badly bullied in school - like everyone else, was stripped away from their creature comforts, including beauty products.
