First look! Amanda Seyfried stars opposite fiance Thomas Sadoski in The Last Word as she and Shirley MacLaine find friendship in the face of death

She found love on set and now is having a baby, but before the horse and carriage came an usual tale of what happens in the twilight of life.

Amanda Seyfried and Shirley MacLaine, 82, are a couple of unlikely pals in new film The Last Word.

The first trailer for the comedy was released Thursday and promises laughs with some inevitable tears.

The film - which is set for release next year - was where Amanda, 30, reconnected with her co-star Thomas Sadoski, 40 and fell in love.

The couple are now having a baby together but Thomas is only seen briefly in the trailer, playing Shirley's boss.

The real focus is not the two lovebirds, but the growing and very unexpected friendship between Shirley's character and Amanda.

The veteran actress plays retired business woman Harriet Lawler, a control freak who has done a good job of alienating people her entire life.

Being a control freak, Harriet demands that writer Anne Sherman (Amanda) write her obituary prior to her death to ensure it is done the way she wants.

Harriet arms Amanda's character with a few hundred names of people to interview, problem is even her local priest declares, 'I hated her, so much'.

Not making for great start, Anne declares: 'She puts the b***h in obituary.'

Befriending a young girl named Brenda (played by AnnJewel Lee Dixon), Shirley's character dubs the tween her intern and decides to make an impact on the world via a radio DJ job.

Her boss is Amanda's real life baby daddy but Thomas appears for just a second so it is not clear yet if art imitates life and he falls for Amanda's character.

The Last World will premiere at Sundance next year before coming to theatres in March. 

By that time Amanda will be very pregnant with what may be her little boy as the star referred to her first child as a 'him' during a recent interview.
