How king of daytime TV Phillip Scholfield met his match when he was offered the interview

He may be the king of daytime television, but presenter Phillip Schofield met his match when offered the interview of a lifetime with Prince Philip. In a one-hour special to be shown tonight to mark the Diamond Jubilee of the Duke of Edinburgh's Award (DofE), the notoriously dour - and sometime cantankerous - prince made clear he had little time for Schofield's apparent sycophancy. When the presenter revealed he would take part in a wing walk to raise funds for the scheme, Philip, in his typically pithy manner, asked: 'Who is trying to get rid of you?' In the programme, members of the royal family and celebrities including actress Joanna Lumley (top right) and Comedian David Walliams (bottom right) share their anecdotes of the 95-year-old Duke.

Is this Mick Jagger's messiest ever love tangle?

Becoming a father can be a tiring business, and Mick Jagger, who has just welcomed his eighth child at the age of 73, can surely be excused for feeling more weary than most. However, the reason for his stresses are not - entirely - down to the newborn son delivered in New York on Thursday by dainty American ballerina Melanie Hamrick, 30 (right and inset with the star) - who is a mere 43 years his junior. Rather it is the delicate question of the status and future of their relationship which seems to be most exercising the pair of them. Those in Hamrick's circle indicate that there was a serious problem two months ago when reports linking Jagger to blonde 5ft 11in Russian model Masha Rudenko (left) surfaced - and the result is that he is now 'treading on eggshells' around her.

If loud-mouthed William Joyce - alias Lord Haw-Haw, the 'Germany calling' traitor who ranted foul Nazi propaganda over the radio to Britain throughout World War II - had kept quiet, he might well not have been caught. But the self-important twerp with the plum-in-his-mouth voice couldn't resist the temptation to gab. On the run in northern Germany three weeks after the end of the war in May 1945, he spotted a couple of British Army officers gathering firewood. Instead of slinking away in silence, Joyce was so convinced of his own invincibility that he called out to them: 'There are some bits over here.' The soldiers were intelligence officers. The voice was familiar. They'd heard its distinctive tones praising Hitler's 'super-human heroism' and cursing Winston Churchill as a traitor doing the bidding of his 'Jewish masters'.

The operation (pictrued main and bottom left) is only offered at a single English veterinary centre, and is so rarely performed on dogs that a surgeon experienced in human medicine must oversee it. The four-and-a-half-hour procedure involved inserting catheters into veins in Tess's legs and neck, and guiding them to the heart.
