'I don't know how to handle three kids': Today Extra host David Campbell reveals he has BARRICADED his Christmas tree with a small fence so his young children won't tear it down

He’s the father of three young children, so Christmas is no doubt an exciting time in his household.

But on Monday, David Campbell revealed he places a barrier around his Christmas tree to prevent his kids from getting too close.

The 43-year-old Today Extra host discussed the decision in a segment with co-host Sonia Kruger and guest star Chrissie Swan.

Baby-proof: David Campbell posted this photo to Instagram showing a barricade surrounding his Christmas tree

During the chat David unveiled an Instagram snap of the tree with a wooden barrier surrounding it.

In the photo, the stylish tree, adorned with lights and ornaments, looks family friendly, except for the baby-proof barrier.

'Three kids is more than you can imagine, because you’re outnumbered,' David said. 'This year we had to put up a barricade to protect our Christmas tree.'

Hands on: David is dad to three young kids, Leo, Betty and Billy.

'I need some tips on how to handle three kids!' David asked radio star Chrissie swan for advice

'I saw that,' Chrissie laughed. 'It looks like you’re trying to prevent the Christmas tree from escaping.'

'I actually wanted to build a wall, but Trump is doing that already,' David joked.

He then said to Chrissie, who is also a mum-of-three, 'I need some tips on how to handle three kids!'

Silly season: David and his young son Billy look excited about Christmas, sharing father-son time in Santa hats.

David is dad to six-year-old Leo and twins Billy and Betty, aged 23 months.

He has been married to British producer Lisa Hewitt since 2008.

'You guys are in the trenches right now,' Chrissie claimed. 'Something magical happens when the youngest is three. And when that happens, all of a sudden you start doing things you used to do.'

Let me in! Last Christmas David shared this snap of Billy and Betty at the barricade.

David also used the wooden railing to blockade his Christmas tree last year.

Instagram snaps show his twins at the railing trying to peer over to take a peak at the tree.

It's no secret David is a fan of the festive season.

Last week he posted another seasonal snap to Instagram, with he and son Billy both wearing Santa hats.

The father-and-son stare smile into the camera, clearly excited about the silly season.

Festive: Last Christmas David lent a helping hand to son Leo as they decorated the tree, no doubt before the railing was erected to keep out the kids.
