How those cream-topped, syrup-flavoured drinks can contain up to 13 teaspoons

The operation (pictrued main and bottom left) is only offered at a single English veterinary centre, and is so rarely performed on dogs that a surgeon experienced in human medicine must oversee it. The four-and-a-half-hour procedure involved inserting catheters into veins in Tess's legs and neck, and guiding them to the heart.
