'Getting a bit sick of seeing them in their underwear!' Little Mix suffer social media backlash after stripping off for raunchy X Factor finale performance

They enjoyed a triumphant return to The X Factor on Sunday evening, five years after becoming what is still the one and only group to win the long-running talent show.

But despite their enduring popularity Little Mix have been criticised for sporting skimpy, provocative stage costumes during their performance at Wembley Arena.

The girl group delighted fans with back to back performances of Charlie Puth collaboration Oops and forthcoming single Touch as contestant Matt Terry became the sixteenth winner of the ITV juggernaut.

Racy: Despite their enduring popularity Little Mix have once again been criticised for sporting skimpy, provocative stage costumes during their performance during The X Factor finale at Wembley Arena on Sunday evening

However their raunchy outfit change midway through the performance did not go down well with every member of the viewing public.

Taking to Twitter, some fans condemned the four-piece for stripping down to skintight leotards and fishnet tights.

'Wish #LittleMix would go back to the relatable image they had when they were on #XFactor. Don't get why they've had to "sex up" so much...' wrote one.

Referencing he band's image overhaul since winning the show in 2011, one wrote: 'Little mix has changed so much since they've won. And I don't like it. They never used to be "Sex Sells" kindve group #XFactor" (sic)'

Seemingly in agreement, another added: 'Little Mix have turned up again without their proper kit and have been forced to perform in their underwear. Terrible. #XFactor #LittleMix.'

Hitting back: Some fans referenced the fact that Little Mix were ignoring the haters

Unfair: One fan claimed Little Mix were being unfairly singled out for their stage costumes

He's a fan: Former Blue singer Duncan James praised the girls on social media

However one fan rightly pointing out that the performance took place after the watershed, tweeting: 'So people are complaining about Little Mix outfits, they performed at 9:40, I'm sure children should be in bed? #xfactor #littlemix.'

'Why do people always hate on Little Mix's outfits? I thought they looked unreal #xfactorfinal #LittleMix,' wrote another.

Making a fair point, another added: 'People saying that little mix are dressed inappropriately but think that Beyoncés leotards are fine. pathetic.'

Even former Blue singer Duncan James had a say, writing: 'Love @LittleMix performance tonight on @TheXFactor! Great work girls.'

Never mind the haters: Many fans defended the provocative girl group following their latest performance

Divided opinion: As always the band's raunchy display polarised fans

Matt Terry clinched the X Factor final with just 8% more votes than runner-up Saara Aalto, according to ITV.

The former waiter scored 48.5% in Sunday night's final, while Finnish singer Aalto was just a little behind with 40.4%.

His triumph is the second win for X Factor judge Nicole Scherzinger, who also mentored James Arthur, the winner of the 2012 series.
