Pants, patterns, oh my! Kaley Cuoco, Allison Williams and Michelle Monaghan's fashion risks land them on Critics' Choice Awards Worst Dressed list

Fortune may favour the bold but sometimes bold fashion moves do not pay stylish dividends.

Kaley Cuoco, Allison Williams and Michelle Monaghan all tried to make style leaps at the annual Critics' Choice Awards but all three missed the target.

Whatever Kaley's big theory to break away from the tradition red carpet gowns was, it did not prove successful in Santa Monica, California, on Sunday night.

Style slip ups: Kaley Cuoco, Allison Williams and Michelle Monaghan all tried to make style leaps at the annual Critics' Choice Awards in Santa Monica, California, on Sunday night but all three missed the target

Look pretty in petal pink like Kaley

Looking pretty like the first day of Spring (in December) Kaley arrived at the Critics Choice Awards wearing this gorgeous pastel ensemble by Noon by Noor.

This dramatic ruffle embellished top features a high low silhouette with a floor sweeping train that she paired perfectly with some fitted trousers.

These pretty pastel pants hailed from Noon by Noor's Spring collection so sadly, we won't be able to get our hands on Kaley's exact pair till next year.

In the meantime, why don't you refresh your winter wardrobe with a bit of color and shop our favorite alternatives in the edit below?

The 32-year-old star stepped out at the Barker Hangar in a pink two piece Noon By Noor.

While the designer normally provides Best Dressed List guarantees, Kaley did not get one of those.

Instead the star wore cropped pants which sat very low on her hips with a textured strapless top.

The top was short at the front showing off a hint of belly, and flowed out into a long train at the back.

Pink imperfection: Whatever Kaley's big theory to break away from the tradition red carpet gowns was, it did not prove successful

Highs and lows: The 32-year-old star stepped out at the Barker Hangar in a pink two piece Noon By Noor that featured a strapless top with long train

Clearly really feeling pretty in pink, the Big Bang Theory star added a pair of pink strappy heels.

Pants also earned Michelle Monaghan a spot of the Worst Dressed List.

The 40-year-old also stumbled in a design from who is normally a shoe in for Best Dressed, Monique Lhuillier.

Dared to bare: Michelle also stumbled in a design from who is normally a shoe in for Best Dressed, Monique Lhuillier

Cheeky: The actress (pictured with Norman Reedus) floated out in a pair of wide legged sheer pants which revealed a pair of vintage-style panties

Did not compute: Mr. Robot's Carly Chaikin wore trousers also but it was not her high waisted black pants that ensures a style slip, it was her dress come top

The actress floated out in a pair of wide legged sheer pants which revealed a pair of vintage-style panties.

The Patriots Day star's pants could have worked for another event but paired with a low-cut lace jacket and a giant white floppy bow it missed the mark for gala that kicks off the awards season.

Mr. Robot's Carly Chaikin wore trousers also but it was not her high waisted black pants that ensures a style slip.

Not so well suited: Carly has some familiar faces joining her on the Worst Dressed with her male co-stars Christian Slater and Rami Malek

Can't miss him: Christian was throwing it back to his Eighties glory days in a shimmering black and silver checked suit jacket

Green around the gills: Co-star Rami tried to embrace the fabric of the season, velvet, but his choice of light olive colour meant he missed the fashion mark

It was 26-year-old's Thakoon creation that covered her top half, well almost covered her top half, that let her down.

The top come dress was cropped at the front flaunting her toned tum but, like Kaley's look, was longer at the back falling in pleats.

Carly has some familiar faces joining her on the Worst Dressed with her male co-stars Christian Slater and Rami Malek.

Missed the mark: Pants and jackets were not to blame for Allison Williams fashion faux pas - pattern was

Not all that glitters is gold: The Girls' actress stepped out in a bold patterned dress created by heavy blue and green beading with nude panels

Natural beauty: While the dress was impressive, the pattern did not do the star's fantatsic physique justice

While the pair needed to be applauded for breaking away from the classic black tux, these two took it a little too far.

Christian was throwing it back to his Eighties glory days in a shimmering black and silver checked suit jacket.

Co-star Rami tried to embrace the fabric of the season, velvet, but his choice of light olive colour meant he missed the fashion mark.

What would Carrie say? While she is a star of one of television's most stylish shows of all time, Sex And The City's Cynthia Nixon made style misstep in a red and pink satin gown which would have been suited more to the 1996 Critics' Choice Awards than the 2016

So close: Greta Gerwig dress was not so red hot thanks to its ill-fit and unneeded sparkle

Pants and jackets were not to blame for Allison Williams fashion faux pas - pattern was.

The Girls' actress stepped out in a bold patterned dress created by heavy blue and green beading with nude panels.

While the dress was impressive, the pattern did not do the star's physique justice.

Not a podium finish: The Bronze star Haley Lu Richardson wore a sheer nude dress that has been the go-to look of late but her decision to wear a mismatched black slip under the gown certainly did not win her fashion gold

The 28-year-old also decided to hide away her natural beauty under heavy makeup which, combined with the beaded gown, culminated for an overdone look.

While she is a star of one of television's most stylish shows of all time, Sex And The City's Cynthia Nixon made style misstep in a red and pink satin gown which would have been suited more to the 1996 Critics' Choice Awards than the 2016.

While her look was dated, wearing the trend of the day also caused a fashion struggle for others.

Prom-ready: Not dressing for a red carpet was also an issue which tripped up tripped up star Linda Cardellini

The Bronze star Haley Lu Richardson wore a sheer nude dress that has been the go-to look of late but her decision to wear a mismatched black slip under the gown certainly did not win her fashion gold.

Not dressing for a red carpet was also an issue which tripped up tripped up Linda Cardellini.

The 41-year-old wore a short semi-sheer frock which looked as if she was headed to prom.

Luckily for the stars that failed to shine it is just the start of the awards season so there will be plenty more chances to win Most Improved.

Ahoy there captain: Rapper and actor Lakeith Stanfield chose the wrong moment to embrace a maritime theme, he also decided to storm the stage and accept and award for Silicon Valley despite not being in the show
