Atlanta's Lakeith Stanfield pulls a Kanye West by gatecrashing stage after Silicon Valley wins over his show at the Critics' Choice Awards

At least they know how to take a joke.

Atlanta star Lakeith Stanfield did a Kanye at the Critics' Choice Awards after Silicon Valley, and not his show, won.

The 25-year-old - who also goes by just Keith - decided to collect the Best Comedy Series Award despite his FX program not making the cut on Sunday night.

Pulled a Kanye: Atlanta star Lakeith Stanfield gatecrashed the Critics' Choice Awards stage after Silicon Valley, and not his show, won Best Comedy Series on Sunday

The actor and rapper - who was comically dressed in a captain's hat - managed to beat Silicon Valley's executive producer Tom Lassally to the microphone.

While Leslie Mann - who presented the category with Christian Slater - do not hand over the trophy, Lakeith gave an acceptance speech.

The star - who also goes by just Keith - said: 'I want to thank everyone for honouring us in this way.

'We worked very hard on Silicon Valley and here we are. Thank you.'

Beat you to it: The actor and rapper - who was comically dressed in a captain's hat - managed to beat Silicon Valley's executive producer Tom Lassally to the microphone

Not for you: While Leslie Mann - who presented the category with Christian Slater - do not hand over the trophy, Lakeith gave an acceptance speech

Nice sentiment at least: The star said, 'I want to thank everyone for honouring us in this way.  We worked very hard on Silicon Valley'

As he spoke, Silicon Valley's Lassally was shocked but took it well.

The executive producer went for laughs by joking slinking off behind Lakeith and then hiding behind Leslie and Christian.

When Lakeith wrapped up his 'acceptance' speech he walked off the stage allowing Lassally to finally take to the microphone.

Rolled with it: As the 25-year-old spoke, Silicon Valley's Lassally was shocked but took it well

Improvised: The executive producer went for laughs by joking slinking off behind Lakeith and then hiding behind Leslie and Christian

And goodnight: When Lakeith wrapped up his 'acceptance' speech he walked off the stage allowing Lassally to finally take to the microphone

The bemused producer laughed off the interruption, saying: 'No idea who that was.'

'Unfortunately [executive producer] Alec Berg was sick tonight, so [Lakeith] and I are both substitutions.'

Lakeith's antics got a mixed response from the star-studded audience, with a mixture of shocked faces and big laughs happening in unison.

While Atlanta did miss out on the big gong, star and creator Donald Glover won the award for Best Actor In A Comedy Series.

Now he does: The bemused executive producer laughed off the interruption, saying, 'No idea who that was'

Still got his moment: Lassally recovered nicely and was able to do his own real acceptance speech finally

Not empty handed: While Atlanta did miss out on the big gong, star and creator Donald Glover won the award for Best Actor In A Comedy Series

Lakeith was certainly having a big night at the awards from the moment he stepped on to the blue carpet.

Instead of just walking in and posing for pictures in front of the mandated backdrop, he decided to make good use of the event's blue carpet.

The Straight Out Of Compton star threw himself down on the unusual coloured red carpet and pose for snaps lying down.

What is going on!?! Lakeith's antics got a mixed response from the star-studded audience, with a mixture of shocked faces and big laughs happening in unison

Came to party: Lakeith was certainly having a big night at the awards from the moment he stepped on to the blue carpet

That's different: Instead of just walking in and posing for pictures in front of the mandated backdrop, he decided to make good use of the event's blue carpet

But while his behaviour may have been a little out there, the star took to social media to assure fans that's just him.

The actor said on Twitter simply, 'Not crazy'.

Before he was stealing awards, he has long been stealing scenes in the popular Atlanta in which he plays Darius, an upcoming rapper's right hand man.

Ready for his close up: The Straight Out Of Compton star threw himself down on the unusual coloured red carpet and pose for snaps lying down

Clearing that up: But while his behaviour may have been a little out there, the star took to social media to assure fans that's just him

Lakeith also played Snoop Dogg in last year's mega hit Straight Out Of Compton.

While his stage invasion was largely good humoured it was reminiscent of Kaye West's infamous 2009 stage storming at the MTV Music Awards.

Then Kanye snatched the microphone to protest that Beyince did not win the Album Of The Year when it was given to his now-nemesis Taylor Swift.

Imma let you finish: While his stage invasion was largely good humoured it was reminiscent of Kaye West's infamous 2009 stage storming at the MTV Music Awards when Taylor Swift won
