Supposed title of the forthcoming eighth movie in the Star Wars franchise is leaked and divides fans... as the anticipation around Rogue One: A Star Wars Story hots up
An application for a legal trademark, submitted by Lucasfilm, has seemingly revealed the name of the next movie in the Star Wars series.
Fans of the franchise have gone into a frenzy on finding out that the production company responsible for the series has applied to trademark the term 'Star Wars: Forces Of Destiny'.
While it's commonplace for the company to submit applications for its various offshoots of media - such as video games - this particular submission has captured the attention of ardent Star Wars watchers as it lists a multitude of corresponding products in connection with it.

Forces Of Destiny: Supposed title of the forthcoming eighth movie in the Star Wars franchise is leaked and divides fans... as the anticipation around Rogue One: A Star Wars Story hots up
The high number of products - some 800 - is more a characteristic of a movie, rather than any other spin-off.
This has caused Star Wars enthusiasts to take to the internet to debate whether the title 'Forces Of Destiny' is a good enough name for the forthcoming eighth episode in the film series set for release next Christmas.
In some cases, theorists have speculated that the somewhat 'weak' title has been floated to purposely mislead fans.
However, according to The Times, who reported the incident and roped in the expertise of an intellectual property lawyer, it's unlikely Lucasfilm (who are owned now by Disney as of 2012) will have applied for a trademark if they weren't going to use it.
Specialist Nick Philips is quoted as explaining: 'When you apply to register an EU trademark you do sign a a form saying you intend to use it.'
The general consensus on Twitter is that the name is too similar to last year's seventh film - The Force Awakens - and that it sounds like fan fiction.

Frenzy: Fans of the franchise have gone into a spin on finding out that the production company responsible for the series has applied to trademark the term 'Star Wars: Forces Of Destiny'
'I'd easily put money on the title NOT being Forces Of Destiny. Sounds like a game or marketing campaign,' one theorist mused.
'Forces of destiny doesn't really do it for me,' another fan observed.
'I'll be so annoyed if the subtitle for Star Wars Episode VIII is "Forces of Destiny". That sounds horrible. Garbage fan fiction title,' slammed a third.
'The new #StarWars film is rumoured to be titled: Episode VIII Forces of Destiny. No no no noooooo!' fumed a fourth.
Someone else wrote: 'star wars episode viii: forces of destiny SOUNDS TERMINALLY LAME!'
Another posted: 'To be fair, Attack of The Clones wasn't a great title... and neither was The Phantom Menace. But Forces of Destiny? No, no, no... and no.'

'Forces of Destiny sounds like a Destiny's Child reunion album...' suggested another.
At least one fan was excited by the news, however: 'Sooooo... Star Wars Episode VIII: Forces Of Destiny might be the next title. Literally so pumped.'
