'That's nice, honey?' Man asks strangers how to reply to someone who says 'I love you' when you don't love them back
- Strangers were asked how to reply to 'I love you' when they didn't feel the same
- Some replies were hilarious, some cringe worthy, and some were serious
- 'That's nice honey,' was one of the less subtle replies suggested
- 'Say ''I Love You Tube'' really fast,' was offered as a crafty way to avoid the issue
It can be incredibly difficult to tell your partner you love them the first time.
And it can be even harder to respond when you don't feel the same way.
So one worried man asked reddit how he could spare the feelings of someone who said 'I love you' without resorting to using the 'L' word in return.
These were the hilarious replies.

One commenter advised that putting up a language barrier was the best way to deal with the problem.
Rather than directly addressing the man's girlfriend when she said 'I love you', it was easier to fake misunderstanding, he advised.
'No hablo Ingles. Lo siento,' he suggested as a reply - which roughly translated means, 'I do not speak English, I'm sorry.'
'That's nice': Others suggested playing down the remark with a non-committal reply (stock image)
If that advice seemed a little far-fetched, others suggested the man could always play it cool and downplay the gravity of the situation.
'I know,' was one possible reply.
'That's nice, honey,' was another.
Other responses were a touch more crafty.
'Mouth ''Elephant juice'' at them. Lip reading with the wrong context is great.'
Or: 'Say ''I love You Tube'' really fast.'
'Makes it worse': Some offered more serious advice, suggesting the tongue-in-cheek replies would only cause trouble (stock image)
While most of the replies were tongue in cheek, some took it upon themselves to offer serious advice.
'That just makes it worse,' one commenter said in reply to the hilarious suggestions.
'If you're in a situation where this seems like the best solution, it would be way better to just have a legitimate conversation with the person who said this to you.
'Talking it out makes it better in the long run, and everyone is on the same page at the end.'
