  • Gunners fans aren't happy with their luck, drawing the Bavarians despite winning their group in style

Arsenal will be making an all too familiar trip to Germany for the next round of the Champions League, after being drawn against Bavarian giants Bayern Munich yet again.

Arsene Wenger's men look to have pulled the short straw in this season's final 16 and will face the side who so ruthlessly put them to the sword to the tune of 5-1 last season at the Allianz Arena.

Despite winning their group in comfortable fashion Arsenal will not be rewarded for the endeavours and have been pencilled in to face Carlo Ancelotti's men in mid-February.

As the news broke Twitter was quick to react, with fans and the teams themselves chipping in with their thoughts on what is set to be yet another tantalising encounter between two European titans.

Arsenal kicked off proceedings by announcing the news of the draw to their 8.6million followers, before their soon-to-be opponents chirped up with a response.

Bayern Munich were quick to respond to Arsenal's tweet using a 'groundhog day' gif

The Bavarian giants wasted no time in getting back to Arsenal, sending the North London club a welcoming 'Hello again!' tweet along with a 'Groundhog day' gif.

The Gunners were clearly in a friendly mood after quickly replying 'see you soon,' along with an image of their German star Mesut Ozil embracing with Bayern's Thomas Muller while on international duty.

The players were also quick to get in on the action, Arsenal's star play-maker Mesut Ozil tweeting about the return to his homeland.

Greeting the news of yet another draw with Bayern, Ozil wrote: 'Ok,once again...' accompanied by an image of a German-themed Arsenal banner which hangs in the Emirates Stadium in his name.

Seeing the World Cup winner's tweet, Ozil's international team-mate Jerome Boateng playfully responded and the pair exchanged a bit of back and forth in their native German.

'Every year the same,' the Bayern defender replied to Ozil's original tweet with a passing hint to the German side's previous victories, to which the Arsenal star responded: 'Now it is our turn bro.'

'Didn't you say that last time?' Boateng shot back at Ozil, though the Arsenal man was ready and waiting with a response, simply tweeting: 'New year new luck, this time you do not already have ten points clear in the league.

Arsenal fans appeared to be feeling much less confident than their German star, taking to Twitter in pessimistic unison while struggling to believe their poor luck of drawing the reigning Bundesliga champions.

Controversial Gunners fan Piers Morgan also couldn't resist the urge to comment upon the news, using the draw against Bayern as a subtle dig at Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger.

Morgan, a self-confessed member of the 'Wenger out' brigade over at the Emirates, made a jibe that only the Frenchman could win his own Champions League group yet then see his team face one of the competition's most formidable sides.

Wenger's record in the Champions League isn't a favourable one, with the iconic boss having failed to manoeuvre his side past the round of 16 since the 2009-10 season.
