Dont Waste Your Wishes (iTunes)
The Killers have made a charity single every Christmas since 2006, and Dont Waste Your Wishes gathers all 11 together. With Elton John and Neil Tennant contributing, and singer Brandon Flowerss mischievous sense of humour to the fore, the outcome is impressive. Feel It In My Bones forms the centrepiece of a song trilogy that cast the bands road manager as a murderous Santa with sinister plans for those on his naughty list. The sole cover is a real tear-jerker, as Flowers hooks up with his former Las Vegas school teacher Mr Hansen, now 86, on Ill Be Home For Christmas. Available to download, Dont Waste Your Wishes is out on CD today thekillersmusic.com.

Kylie Christmas Snow Queen Edition (Parlophone)
Having spread the seasonal spirit for the first time last year, Kylie returns with an expanded version of her Christmas album. High on festive kitsch, with the Australian disco diva (right) decked out in purple tinsel and silver stilettos on the sleeve, it features a throaty cameo from Iggy Pop and a beyond-the-grave duet with Frank Sinatra. The mood is playful, although the six new numbers dont add much in terms of originality. Paul McCartneys Wonderful Christmastime (sung here with Mika) and Wizzards I Wish It Could Be Christmas Everyday are blunted by familiarity. East 17s Stay Another Day and Rozallas dance hit Everybodys Free (To Feel Good) arent even Christmas songs.

Boots No. 1 (Acony)
Welch revisits her 1996 debut Revival with this expanded (and retitled) edition, adding rarities plus eight unreleased songs. Produced by T-Bone Burnett and hailed as one of the best alt-country albums ever made, it augments her heartache songs with the strumming and vocal harmonies of Dave Rawlings. Paper Wings echoes Patsy Cline, while I Dont Want To Go Downtown is worthy of Tom Waits.

Moana OST (Universal)
Music plays a significant role in the Disney hit, as this infectious pop soundtrack demonstrates. Hawaiian actress Aulii Cravalho (who voices teen princess Moana) soars with gutsy aplomb on the theme song. Wrestler-turned-actor Dwayne The Rock Johnson strikes a conversational note on Youre Welcome. With guest spots from Nicole Scherzinger and Alessia Cara, it is shaping up to be this years Frozen.
★★★
Darkness And Light (Columbia)
As the singer behind the romantic ballads All Of Me and Ordinary People, John Legend traditionally explores soft soul. This fifth album finds him branching out musically without sacrificing his artistry. Brittany Howard, of the gritty Alabama Shakes, is a revealing presence on the sultry title track, while Overload is all jazzy sax and jagged guitar. Its not all bold experimentation, though. Right By You is a ballad inspired by Legends baby daughter Luna.
★★★★
Caught In Still Life (Virgin EMI)
Vaults will forever be associated with jumpy fox cubs thanks to their presence on this years John Lewis Christmas advert, but there is more to the London trio than that cover of Randy Crawfords classic One Day Ill Fly Away. This debut allies Blythe Pepinos emotive female voice with the cool electronica of her male bandmates. Despite echoes of Kate Bush and London Grammar, its sombre moods become repetitive.
