One expert has shared eight mistakes that many employees make on a daily basis that could be putting their job at risk.

From playing practical jokes to involving yourself in office gossip and politics,  Lee Biggins, founder and managing director of CV-Library, has shared the office mistakes to avoid at all costs.

One expert has shared eight mistakes that many employees make on a daily basis that could be putting their job at risk, so how many are you guilty of?

1. Ignoring the rules: We often joke that rules are made to be broken, but if you want to do well in your job, and move ahead in your career, then it's important to adhere to the rules your boss has laid out. Plus, they might be paying closer attention to you than you think.

2. Playing practical jokes: We all enjoy a laugh every now and again, and it is important to have fun at work, but taking it too far can quickly make your boss see you as a distraction to your fellow colleagues. It's best to keep it professional at all times.

3. Taking credit for others work: Whilst white lies or taking credit for other's work may seem harmless, there could be bigger repercussions down the line. Bosses want their employees to work harmoniously as a team to get the job done – not drag each other down along the way.

4. Getting involved in office gossip: Don't get caught up with the office politics. No-one likes a gossip and it's unprofessional. If you want to be respected by colleagues and senior management alike try and stay away from these culprits and focus on the job in hand.

5. Not picking up the slack: Any worker that appears lazy and unwilling to get their hands dirty is always going to be judged by the big bosses. Even if a task is 'beneath' you, or not one of your responsibilities, if your team are struggling it's important that you help out where possible.

6. Being rude to customers or clients: While dealing with customers and clients can test every worker's patience, your boss will definitely NOT want you to be rude to them. Take a deep breath, stick a smile on your face and only moan about your customers or clients outside of work.

7. Losing your temper: Emotions can come to a head in the workplace, especially as you're dealing with people that you may not ordinarily choose to hang around with outside of work. Regardless of how annoyed or frustrated you get with a situation or colleague, try and keep a cool head, you'll be more respected in the long run.

8. Using foul language: While we're all guilty of using swear words in the office, our research tells us that this is still very much frowned upon, so try not to use foul language if you can – especially if no-one else in your workplace does.
