Amir Khan rubs shoulders with Floyd Mayweather in Miami as he states his 'love' for the undefeated former boxer

  • Amir Khan attended the World Boxing Council convention in Miami, Florida
  • Floyd Mayweather, Tony Bellew and Evander Holyfield also attended event
  • Khan stated his love for Mayweather despite the duo never meeting in ring

Amir Khan previously claimed Floyd Mayweather was too scared to fight him during his heyday but the duo were all smiles on Monday as they posed in Miami.

Khan and Mayweather were both in Florida for the World Boxing Council convention which celebrated the life of sporting great Muhammad Ali.

Vitali Klitschko, whose brother - Wladimir - will go toe to toe with Anthony Joshua in April, was also in attendance at the 54th annual convention.

Khan was all smiles as he posed next to the retired Mayweather during the meeting in the Sunshine State.

The 30-year-old Brit said: 'Good to see Floyd Mayweather. Even though we never fought, the love is still there between us.'

Tony Bellew, who will fight fellow Brit David Haye in March, and Winky Wright also grabbed a picture with Khan.

Khan hit out at the undefeated Mayweather, who hung up his gloves following his 49th consecutive win over Andre Berto in September 2015, by insisting the American refused to fight him.

'We thought we got very close to making that fight happen,' Khan said in an interview with TMZ Sports back in February.

'Floyd, to be honest, is too scared to fight me. I did everything to make that fight happen.

'I spoke to my team, and I even said "I'll fight you for free", just to show the world that I'm a better fighter than him, but he just didn't want to fight me and wanted the easy way out.'

Khan is aiming to fight at least three times next year following his knockout defeat by Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez in May.

He has been out of action after having extensive surgery on a hand problem in September but is targeting a return to the ring in the new year.

Khan, who has a 31-4 record, said in September: 'I want to fight again in January, then in May and again before the end of 2017.

'I'm going to start training and make sure my hand is fully recovered. I don't want to rush into a fight at the end of this year.

'I want my next fight to be in Britain. I know it's going to have to be a tune-up, having lost the Canelo fight, and also having had the hand surgery.'
