Pep Guardiola provided a hilarious reaction when asked about criticism levelled at him by pundit Stan Collymore by appearing not to know who the former Liverpool player is.
During his midweek press conference Guardiola was asked about Collymore's recent comments in which he branded the former Barcelona man 'completely deluded' for thinking he can succeed in England by outplaying teams alone, and not 'teaching tackling'.
But Guardiola was nonplussed to the point where his bemused expression suggested Collymore was completely new to him.
Pep Guardiola's reaction to hearing Stan Collymore's name was one of bewilderment
The Manchester City boss genuinely appeared to have no idea who the former player is
Guardiola was asked about the criticism levied at him by Collymore, who has branded the former Barcelona man 'completely deluded'
Writing in his column for the Daily Mirror this week Collymore quite frankly stated: 'He (Guardiola) is beyond deluded and if he thinks he doesn't need to teach tackling or one-on-one combat in training then he'll be going back to Spain with his tail between his legs.'
When asked by a Spanish journalist his thoughts regarding Collymore's criticism of his approach, Guardiola required some clarification on the matter.
Once translated and repeated, Guardiola was told: 'Stan Collymore has written today criticising your methods and you will go back to Spain with your tail between your legs.'
To which the 45-year-old simply replied: 'Bad luck, we'll see.'
Though Collymore's comments washed over the two-times Champions League-winning manager, Guardiola has acknowledged that his side's home form drastically needs to change quickly, or else the consequences for him as manager could be severe.
The Spaniard has gone as far as to indicate he will be sacked if he cannot meet expectations at the Etihad.
Former played turned pundit Collymore hasn't held back in his criticism of Guardiola
City have only won four times in the last 15 games but Guardiola is refusing to compromise the principles that brought him success at Barcelona and Bayern Munich.
'As coaches, if you don't win then something is going to happen,' said Guardiola. 'Long-term projects don't exist in football.
'When it doesn't happen another guy has to be in charge. You have to win immediately. If you don't win, you will be in trouble.'
