Briton in Benidorm room for 40 seconds before balcony fall

EXCLUSIVE: A Briton arrested over the death of a newlywed on a hen party in Benidorm has claimed she was only in his hotel room for 40 seconds before she plunged 100ft from his balcony. Joseph Graham, 32, from Nottingham, pictured bottom right, told police Kirsty Maxwell had been disorientated when she came to his apartment on the tenth floor of the Apartamentos Payma hotel seemingly looking for her friends. He told detectives Mrs Maxwell, 27, pictured main, right, and far left, said nothing to him as she went through the first open doorway and into the bathroom of the suite he was sharing with four friends. A source close to the investigation said Mr Graham screamed, 'She's jumped' when he realised to his horror that she was no longer in the apartment. She had married her husband Adam, pictured inset, in September last year.

Tories on track for best local election showing in DECADES

As the results flow in, the Tories have already raked in more than 150 extra council seats and seized control of Warwickshire, Lincolnshire, Gloucestershire, Monmouthshire and the Isle of Wight. As well as being set to record the best performance for a governing party since 1974, the Conservatives have also won the first new mayoral contest, with Tim Bowles triumphant in the West of England. Senior Labour figures have squarely blamed Jeremy Corbyn for their dismal showing, with complaints that he is 'radioactive' on the doorstep. At a time when it should be adding to its tally, the Opposition has so far lost more than 100 seats. But shadow chancellor John McDonnell risked ridicule by blaming the media, saying voters were only just 'getting to know' Mr Corbyn two years after he took the job.
