Sol Bamba shoves Cardiff boss Neil Warnock and turns on his own physio after seeing red at Ipswich

  • Bamba reacted after a strong tackle by Ipswich midfielder Jonathan Douglas
  • He then shoved over Cardiff's physio before pushing manager Neil Warnock

Sol Bamba is facing a three-match ban and could even be dealt further sanctions after a bizarre confrontation with his manager, Neil Warnock.

The Ivory Coast international spectacularly blew his top after being sent off during Cardiff's 1-1 draw away at Ipswich Town on Saturday.

Bamba reacted badly to a challenge by Jonathan Douglas before launching tirades at Ipswich players, their bench, the referee and fourth official.

Bamba had initially gone down under a strong tackle by Ipswich's Jonathan Douglas

How Warnock and his defender match up

But the most startling conflict came with Warnock, dwarfed by at least six inches, who was aggressively pushed away during the melee.

The Cardiff squad reported for training on Sunday and Sportsmail understands Warnock is ready to hit Bamba with a 'hefty fine' and warn him of his future conduct.

Cardiff chiefs were left both perplexed and angry at the central defender's uncharacteristic outburst, while Warnock admitted he expects to lose him for three games.

The Football Association could review the footage before determining whether stronger sanctions are necessary.

Warnock, with the helps of his other staff members, failed to control the defender

Bamba then got close to Warnock's face before the 68-year-old had to react

Aron Gunnarsson had given Cardiff the lead in the first half before Luke Varney equalised for Ipswich shortly before Bamba's red card.

The result leaves Cardiff 22nd in the Championship, 10 points off bottom-placed Rotherham.

Warnock, meanwhile, blamed Douglas for the Bamba red card. He said: 'I think Douglas has been clever – he has left his studs on the ankle. If the referee had just blown for a foul, it would have stopped all the hassle.

Warnock managed to grab him by the shirt before telling him to go down the tunnel

'But he tried to give advantage, which we didn't want, and it erupts. I have no complaints about the red card. It is disappointing that we lose one of our best players for three matches.

'I didn't really want to talk to Sol after the game so I will see him tomorrow. He just lost his rag but it was an aggressive attitude and I don't condone Sol's behaviour.

'He is distraught in the dressing room and quite rightly. For me, he is one of the best in the Championship and that was a blemish I haven't seen in his make-up.

'But I think it actually revitalised us and we had some good chances to win the game late on. It's shame we're talking about this and not a good performance from us.'
