There was no shortage of beautiful hair and make-up looks at the Critics' Choice Awards in Santa Monica last night.

Celebrities like Emma Stone, Nicole Kidman and Margot Robbie undeniably brought their fashion and beauty A-games and wowed on the blue carpet.

But as the saying goes, the devil is the details. A closer inspection of the beauty looks of stars including Kerry Washington and Bryce Dallas Howard revealed the little moments you may have missed.

Count how many of the beauty details you caught below.

Kerry Washington's Sparkly Black Manicure

Star bright! Kerry Washington, 39, was nominated for a Critics' Choice Award for her role in Confirmation, but it's her black and silver manicure were giving an award to

Kerry, 39, rarely plays it safe on the red carpet, and last night was no exception. The actress, who was nominated for her role in the made-for-TV-movie Confirmation, stunned in a sheer-topped Elie Saab dress and soft textured hair pulled into a messy side braid.

But it was the Scandal star's manicure that caught our eye. Kerry, who was named OPI's first-ever creative ambassador earlier this year, topped the brand's inky black shade Your Gondola or Mine with its glittering silver My Voice Is a Little Norse.

The effect, created by nail pro April Foreman, was like looking at the night sky filled with twinkling stars.

Mandy Moore's Completely Even Complexion

Complexion perfection! Mandy Moore, 32, opted for airbrush make-up to make sure her face and decolletage were the same (flawless) shade

At first glance, you might not notice anything unusual about Mandy's natural-looking make-up. Sure, the 32-year-old star's complexion looked flawless and her cheeks had just the right amount of flush, but it didn't stop at her neck.

'Mandy chose to wear a beautiful and very sexy column dress by Solace London,' said Jenn Streicher, who did the star's make-up for the evening. 'Since the dress is very low-cut, it was really important for me to make sure all of her skin looked flawless.'

To ensure that it did, and that it would last all night, Jenn used Temptu's airbrush make-up.

'I airbrushed her face with the new Perfect Canvas 24-Hour Airbrush Foundation (available in March 2017) in Nude to give Mandy a flawless complexion,' she said.

'I continued airbrushing her neck and décolletage since she had some tan lines we wanted to hide. Since the foundation is lightweight and buildable, we could add a bit more to the areas that needed it most, without it looking caked on.

'Next, I used Temptu's Blushing Coral Airbrush Blush on the apples of her cheek and then, to accentuate her features, I added the Airbrush Highlighter in Bronze along her cheekbones to give a warm glow. For her eyes, I added some bronze shadow and lots of mascara to make the look a bit more sultry. Then, for the finishing touch, I added Temptu's True Color Lipstick in Tawny Spice for a natural lip and she was good to go.'

Bryce Dallas Howard's Bubble Ponytail

Pony up! We couldn't peel our eyes away from Bryce Dallas Howard's segmented ponytail

While everyone was busy talking about Bryce Dallas Howard's $240 dress from Topshop, we were staring at the 35 year old's hair.

Yes, the bangs grabbed our attention right away - no surprise there - but her ponytail was far from basic when she turned around.

Hairstylist Christian Wood upped the drama of the Jurassic World star's long ponytail by segmenting it into five sections, each about two inches apart. He secured each with a black elastic and twisted black rope that mimicked the lines in her dress.

Next, he roughly pulled apart the top four sections, which gave it an edgy vibe.

Janelle Monáe's Blue Under Eyeliner

Feeling blue? Janelle Monae, 30, paired her signature red lip color with an eye-catching cobalt liner on her lower lash line

Janelle's reign of make-up perfection continued at the awards. The 30-year-old singer-turned-actress, who was nominated for the film Hidden Figures and Moonlight, combined her signature red lip with a burst of colorful cobalt eyeliner.

Recently the Covergirl spokeswoman's make-up artist, Jessica Smalls, told FEMAIL that she has been using cosmetics to separate Janelle the musician from Janelle the actress.

'We wanted to break away from the norm and show her in a different light, and we're using pops of bold color to do so,' she explained

Another surprising detail? The two black and white polka-dot accent nails among the star's red manicure.
